This Street Artist is Painting Fake Shadows and Making People Do Double Takes

Written by

If you’re staring at your phone you’ll probably miss them. I mean shadows are everywhere, do you really pay that much attention to them? Artist Damon Belanger was recently commissioned by the business owners of downtown Redwood City, California to inject a little life into the downtown core.

So Belanger, a graphic artist living and working in the San Francisco Bay area, painted 23 shadow artworks all around downtown. There’s no rhyme or reason for their locations, no explanation for who or what the characters are. But if you happen to notice them, you’ll surely do a double take and maybe scratch your head when you realize something isn’t right.

The project was recently selected as a ‘Merit Winner’ at the HOW International Design Awards ‘Signage & Environmental Graphics’ category. If you find yourself in Redwood City, California any time soon, try to find all 23 of them!
