Cindy Chinn Carves Family of Elephants Into a Pencil

Written by

Artist Cindy Chinn (featured previously) recently shared her latest project, a commissioned artwork featuring a family of elephants strolling past some trees, all carved from graphite lead.

“Elephant Walk” was commissioned by the Epiphany Elephant Museum. The three elephants were carved from separate carpenter pencils and carefully mounted onto a final carpenter pencil that the landscape was carved into. The detail in these miniature artworks is astonishing and Chinn uses a magnifying lamp and trinocular to help her see.
