In Japan it is not customary to tip. So when former waiter, Yuki Tatsumi, would clear the tables he noticed that some patrons would leave origami made from the paper chopstick sleeves. He took this as a subtle and discreet way of showing appreciation, so he began to collect what he called, Japanese Tip.
What began as a personal collection/hobby in 2012, exploded when he started to reach out to restaurants and eaters across Japan. Soon he had thousands and now boasts over 13,000 in his collection, which he recently exhibited in Tokyo.Colossal]
