In April 2012, the Sifter featured a series of thrift shop paintings that artists had remixed by adding aliens and monsters to them. The pieces struck a chord with readers and was one of the most popular posts of 2012.
One of the featured artists, Thyrza Segal, recently reached out to share her latest series of alien thrift shop paintings.
On her latest series, Thyrza remarks:
“I have a new batch of aliens that I have painted into some vintage postcards and thrift store pictures. No original paintings were harmed in this series. I only use prints.”
When she’s not painting aliens, Thyrza builds terrariums, designs lamps and chandeliers, sculpts and does theatre design and costuming for film and television. Based in Vancouver, Canada, you can find links to Thyrza’s fantastic work at the links below.
If you want to purchase a limited edition print of any of the artworks, email Thyrza or leave a comment below! If there’s enough interest she’ll have giclee prints made that will be signed and numbered 🙂
