Lawrence Alma Tadema: The Roses of Heliogabalus (1888). Fine art reproduction print. This is one of Alma Tadema's most famous paintings: based on an episode from the life of the debauched Roman Emperor Elagabalus (Heliogabalus), the painting depicts the Emperor suffocating his guests at an orgy under a cascade of rose petals. As it was painted during the winter, Tadema arranged to have roses sent weekly from the French Riviera for four months to ensure the accuracy of each petal. >>> IMPORTANT: SPECIFY IN THE "SIZE OPTIONS" (below) IF YOU WANT THE ORIGINAL VERSION OR THE CUT VERSION <<< Please see the differences in the photogallery! See more work by Laura Boswell About Laura Boswell Laura Boswell is a local artist specialising in relief printmaking. Her work focuses on the rural landscape with particular attention to season, pattern and light. Awarded an eight week residency at the Nagasawa Art Institute in Japan, she was one of six international artists to study traditional Japanese water based woodblock printmaking. The unique residency gave her the opportunity to learn from a master woodcarver and a master printer as well as working with Japanese artists, craftsmen and papermakers. The residency has had a profound effect on her work and she is now experimenting with combinations of water and oil based work. Artist Statement I am primarily interested by shape and colour. My personal work focuses on rural landscape as I am fascinated by its pattern, light, weather and seasonality. It’s the perfect raw material for me: local, familiar and in a constant state of change. Printmaking and enamelling are demanding processes and I thrive on the tension between what I want to say and how I can say it within the boundaries of process. I’m at my happiest when I’m exploring and I try never to get too comfortable either with my images or my technical skills. Teaching and sharing skills are an important part of my work and development; I reap huge benefits from working with all levels of learners as well as collaborating with experts. I’m not so much interested in an accurate depiction of a particular place, more I want to evoke a feel for the familiar and loved, perhaps a type of day or season. Mostly I am looking for ways of saying space and distance, though I’m still working on language for the simpler things too. I want to jog memories in my viewer of places they’ve been, walks they’ve taken or weather they’ve experienced. When I see recognition dawn, I know I’m getting it right.

This image is part of a series exploring trees and their interaction with the local landscape in Sussex, England. Some of these works are more literal interpretations which seek to evoke and enhance the atmosphere of the scenes I am seeing, while others are more conceptual and graphic in their approach. The pictures begin as photographs which are then digitally manipulated and merged with other photographs, paintings, drawings, textures, and found objects to create the final artworks. The titles refer to the co-ordinates of the location. Dawn light breaks through the trees and illuminates the swirling jade mists on the River Ouse at Barcombe Mills (Sussex, England), digitally montaged with various textures to create this beautiful landscape image. See more pieces available by Mark Munroe-Preston. About Mark Munroe-Preston Mark was born in Yorkshire in 1968. ARTIST'S COMMENT: "The Lady of October bears the Marigolds and dons the stone of Opal. The Marigold represents warmth and creativity. The Opal will bring her clarity and protection from illness." "She ushers in a time of darkness and a promise of peace for the lost." - While the other Ladies of the Months do their best to guide and protect the spirits of mortals, the Lady of October wanders in their between-spaces. In this season of mists where the veil grows thin, many spirits become lost. She draws them to herself with the strong scent of marigolds, the offering of candles and flowers guiding her way to them. One need never fear the dark before the Winter, for she will always be there with a warm embrace to guide the lost back to the light. "Lady of October" was originally rendered in watercolor and ink and is part of a birthstone series of paintings. Check my other listings to find the other Ladies for each month of the year! Hi welcome to my shop LittleGiraffePrints ❤ This item is a physical print ONLY with NO frame or can be bought as a DIGITAL image which will be emailed to you within 12 hours. The Display photo only gives you an idea on how it would look. If you decide to buy from me, I will aim to get the print with you ASAP but please note that deliveries can be affected from Covid and staff shortages in the Postal Industry. Countries such as Australia it has been slow so please give yourself a minimum of a month waiting time. I do not offer tracking at this time as the prices are very high and in some cases, double the price of the print so please be patient before contacting me. The prints I sell come in a variety of sizes and printed with a top quality printer on high end professional paper, the prints should last many years without any fading. If you wish to learn a bit about the paper I will specify the advantages of each type. ★ What Paper? ★ Gloss — gloss coated paper has a high sheen. Gloss papers have less bulk and opacity and are typically less expensive than dull & matte paper of equal thickness. Gloss coatings reduce ink absorption, which give the sheet an excellent color definition. Satin — a satin coating is a less shiny coated finish. It has a lower gloss level than gloss finish, yet a higher gloss level than matte finish. Colors are sharp and vivid. Matte — a matte coated paper is a non-glossy, flat looking paper with very little sheen. Matte papers are more opaque, contain greater bulk, and are higher in cost. The coating still keeps much of the ink from being absorbed by the paper, which produces excellent, vibrant color. Cotton Rag Premier Paper — This impressive fine art paper has a 100% cotton rag base with a premium etching coating, which provides a movement and aesthetic warmth to your artwork expected with traditional fine art techniques. Ultra Pearlescent Hi-White Paper — Heavy photographic weight, with an improved sheen level and pronounced pearl texture finish. Ultra white base for clean whites also with scratch resistant resin coat surface. ★ After Sale ★ Once you have purchased the print, I will endeavour to get the print posted or emailed to you as soon as possible.
