This DIY pine cone ornament is made from paper, comes together quickly, and is less that 10 dollars to make! Perfect for ornament exchanges.
This unique paper pinecone ornament measures 4" long. It is made from some of my favorite vintage maps, with colors of teal, ivory, beige, green, tan and blue. It hangs from a ribbon at the top. It is very lightweight, as it has a foam egg underneath. So cute! These make wonderful gifts! They look great on Christmas trees, but they are big enough that you could just hang them from anywhere in your house and they would look great! They make great wedding decorations, first anniversary presents, birthday presents, etc. Pinecone may vary slightly from one in photo. These are my large size. I can do these smaller. I can also do them from any paper, book, map, etc. If you would like a custom order, please send me a message.

I had to do this ... after several trials with felt and cardboard I discovered the craft foam ... I had bought some about 10 years ago and it was lying in my paper stash drawer since then waiting for this moment. What could be better? felt, craft foam and thread, oh an a hand operation on my right hand. I have probably delayed recovery by stubbornly making these, but I had already promised I would design some new ones this year and felt duty bound. My operation was for a trigger release on my middle finger which I have needed for months. It has made doing what I do very very hard for all that time, getting increasingly painful and stiff. All I have now is a small healing wound and hopefully less pain and more agility in my hand, before the next operation on my pointy finger on the same hand ... sorry index finger. So the execution is not perfect but I did my best ... Enough moaning! This tutorial is now available on the website and is for all four decorations with full instructions, stitch library, templates, and stitch guides. It has been a busy month too ... Christmas orders are rolling in (thank you to all who have toiled for me while I have been less able!) And I now think I can reveal that i am supplying THE NATIONAL TRUST! Yes it is true! Or have I already said ... anyway do let me know if any of you spot one of the kits or Interactive Stationery in a NT property near you! I don't get out much you see ... ALSO! I am shutting up shop on DECEMBER 10th, so no orders after that date.
i restrained from putting BUTT as the title with ON in the post. i'm maturing i think. it's craft day here at the west house. no. let's rephrase. everyday is a craft day. today is

Difficulty: Easy ★★☆☆☆ You will need: a clear sphere ornament tissue paper/ year/ coloured paper in your choice colour acrylic paint in various colours a marker (like a sharpie pen) small paintbrushes ribbon or string scissors various coloured foam sheets/ cardstock/ felt (only necessary depending on Pokemon choice) crazy/super/hot glue (only if you're attaching ears, etc.) Mod Podge/ your choice of finishing coat First choose the Pokemon you want to make. Pokemon that have faces that are all 1 colour work best. Remove the top part of your ornament. Fill the ornament up with ripped tissue paper/cardstock or yarn in your choice colour. Once the ornament is filled, put the top part of the ornament back on. Using a reference picture of your choice Pokemon, begin to draw on the eyes/mouth and any face details with a marker. A sharpie pen works great for this and can be easily rubbed off to correct any mistakes or once finished. Using your finished drawn on Pokemon face as guidelines, paint the face on with acrylic paint in the correct colours. You will probably need to do multiple coats to get an opaque look. Let the paint dry completely before moving on. If you want you can now coat your painted ornament in Mod Podge/ your choice of finishing coat. If your Pokemon has ears/ other face details that stick out, make them out of some cardstock/felt/foam sheet in the correct colour(s). Far ears; roughly trace the curve of your ornament onto some foam, etc. then draw an ear out from that curve so that the ears will fit well up against the ornament. Cut your ear out and use it to trace another ear so that they match (make sure if your ears aren't symmetrical that you trace the second one the opposite way to your first). If your ears/ face pieces have any markings/ details on them, draw or paint those on as well. Glue on your ear/ face pieces. Cut a length of ribbon/ string and tie it to the top of the ornament to create a loop for hanging. Now you have your finished Pokemon ornament! Some other examples:
