Love is the universal feeling. From the dawn of time, from the earliest epochs of man, and all throughout the rise and fall of world’s many civilizations, the concept of love drove the wheel of time forward.

One of the main inspirations behind our November catalog was the work of Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen, whose gorgeous imagery has accompanied many of the fairy tales featured in our book. Like the stories themselves, fairytale illustrations stretch the realm of your imagination and allow you to lose yourself in a world where reality doesn’t […]

Is scribbling art? Do you really think scribbling is art or are you one of those who thinks it is not? The thing is you are not wrong no matter what you think because not all scribbling is art but then not all scribbling is not art. Some types of scribbling can be done by good artists who direct their scribbling to create meaningful and pretty art that can be used to make your home and office look awesome. If you do not believe us, all you need to do is look at the images we have added along with the article to know that scribbled stuff can also be art. This reminds us of those magic shows of old where the magician would call one of the audience to the stage and have him or her scribble whatever he or she likes to do on to a huge board. Then the magician would ask the audience to tell him what they want the scribbles to be converted into. And once the audience agreed upon on what they wanted the scribbles to be converted into, he would do a bit of tweaking and voila, there would be some awesome art on the board. The reason why we mentioned this here is because sometimes looking at scribble art gives you a similar feeling. Sometimes the world of illustrious illustrations to keep you occupied is also on the same lines that can fill you with wonder and joy.

"Charles Robinson was an illustrator of children’s books in the “Golden Age” of illustration, a time roughly from the late 1800′s to the early 1900′s. His black and white illustrations are subtle combinations of line and stipple, often simple and at times simply silhouettes, at other times leaning toward a more elaborate, Art Nouveau style that carried similarities to Aubrey Beardsley or Kay Neilsen. It is his watercolor illustrations, though, primarily for the covers of the books he illustrated, that are most fascinating... In ways reminiscent of Arthur Rackham, or the more open style of Edmund Dulac, his watercolors have a grace and charm... Robinson, along with his brothers, Thomas Heath Robinson and William Heath Robinson, who were also illustrators, were among the first generation of artists who could actually see their work reproduced in books by way of photo engraving. Previously, artists would have their work interpreted by specialty engravers, such as the Robinson brothers’ father, who would copy the illustrator’s work in preparing the actual engravings which could be used for printing. Interior color reproduction was difficult and expensive as individual plates that were “tipped in”, or added to the book after it was printed. Charles Robinson illustrated classics like Beauty and the Beast, Bluebeard, Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel." From linesandcolours.com

When it comes to art, there are so many mediums and types that they can encompass a huge array of work. In this article, we will take you through some points around graphite art. Few would argue if we said that pets are an endless source of joy and happiness in our lives. Therefore, there is no surprise people are trying to immortalize them in every way possible. This Aussie painter, Vanessa Stockard, found the best way to do that by sneaking her three adorable cats, Kevin The Kittin, his mom Fluff Ferstenberg and the head of the adorable fluff family, Satan, into her paintings. Stockard’s process includes pieces developed without visual reference but rather from memory. These narratives incorporate domestic pets such as cats and dogs, juxtaposing the anthropomorphic nature of these animals are given by society, she infuses the personification of virtue and vice into the everyday canine and feline status quo. Cats with their fluffy comical exteriors yet instinctual urge to kill and a tendency to be cruel to their prey, dogs with their providence of happiness and friendship flung back to Churchill’s metaphor for depression. Despite this not-so -cheerful description of her works, Stockard manages to make her art somehow quirky and very enjoyable!

I won’t pretend to be a comic book connoisseur. My brother and I collected Tintin books for our father to read to us before bedtime and well, that’s about as far as it went for my foray into the graphic arts world. But now I’m wondering, if I had spent a little more time at the comic…

Using acrylics and oils on wood panels, Marc Burckhardt creates timeless, fantastical paintings packed with allegory and storytelling. The artist cites Northern Renaissance and Dutch secular painting as influences in his work, with his own, personal narratives woven into each creation. Though each piece only focuses on one or a handful of beings, lush backdrops and detail add to the absorbing quality to these works.
