According to Hindu beliefs, any new event in life should be started by the invocation to Lord Ganesha. Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles, and so he is the god of good beginnings. It is believed that when starting anything in life we should ask Ganesha for his blessings and there shall be no hurdles or obstacles. He is the most beloved of Hindu Gods and before beginning anything a prayer to Ganesha is sure to ensure success. Ganesha’s image can be gifted to others too, when they start something new. In India we keep an Idol in our new homes, new cars, new workplaces etc. So you could make this pattern not only for good luck and blessings of Lord Ganesha for yourself and your family, but also to gift to friends or family on their new beginnings. Lord Ganesha is also known as the patron of arts and sciences and the Lord of intellect, learning and wisdom. He is the gentlest of all the Hindu God’s. He is known to be kind and forgiving. Ganesh appears as a gentle, pot-bellied figure with the head of an elephant, four arms, and a broken tusk. He is most often depicted as sitting with one leg folded beneath him. According to mythology the colour of Lord Ganesha is bright red. And I love the cross stich in red, I am adding another variation in dark Blue for those who would like a darker hue. You could choose any other colour as well. I am sure he would bless you all the same. ~~~ Dimension of the pattern 20 (W) x30 (H) stitches Finished Dimensions of aida 10 ct aida - 5.08 (W) x 7.62 (H) cm /2 (W) x 3 (H) inches 14 ct aida - 3.63 (W) x 5.44 (H) cm /1.43 (W) x 2.14 (H) inches 18 ct aida - 2.82 (W) x 4.24 (H) cm /1.11 (W) x 1.67 (H) inches WHAT YOU GET An instantly downloadable PDF Pattern file which has the following 1. "Good fortune follows your allies. Summon down the pillars of righteousness!" Ganesha is one of the playable Gods in SMITE. After rigorous celebration, Parvati, Goddess of fertility and love, washed the dirt and sweat from her body. It floated upon the surface of her pool, formless and purposeless. With a wave of her hand, it was transformed into a boy, her son, and set him to guard the door as she finished washing. Shiva, the supreme being, returned and found this child doggedly blocking his pa

Just before the festival of Diwali my friend Meenia asked if I could design a lantern for her. The request was for a Diwali candle cover but I'm a Canadian who's background is Scottish and Irish and quite frankly, though I had heard of Diwali, I didn't know much about it but it certainly sounded like fun and looked like a blast. The thing was, time was of the essence and so, rather than have me feeling around in dark, graphically speaking, Meenia kindly sent me some photos of the flavour of what she was hoping for. She sent me photos of Mehndi designs, henna tattoos, and of Ganesha a Hindi deity. There is so much variety and the tradition is so strong graphically speaking her pictures really gave me an idea of the look she was going for. But want I really want to emphasize here is that for me, this was a design challenge like any of my other clients. I didn't even know why she wanted a lantern. In the end, I made her lantern from black walnut... a particularly dramatic wood and the result was absolutely stunning. So much so that when she posted some pictures on instagram, people were phoning the store to purchase! At this point things got a little crazy...it was just three days until her family's festivities began and I managed to make 17 lanterns in that short time..... I just couldn't make any more. What started as a Diwali gift was by no means ready for production. It was strong and beautiful but the finishing process took ages and Chief Worker Bee was getting pretty annoyed. This year I have re-visited the design - now with more light! No seriously.... Many of the details have been enlarged so the weeding process is easier and yes, the bi-product of that is more glowing light flowing from the lanterns. And that's the basic story. ***************************************************** Besides being beautiful they are really practical.... The wood exterior can be exchanged with any of the other styles or woods I offer. So you can have the style in this listing and then with just the purchase of a spare cozy. You can change from light wood to dark wood whenever you wish.... without the hassle of bulky storage I use artificial candles such as those sold by luminara. Live flame pillar candles or tea-lights work out really well but, of course, use carefully at your own risk. I make these beautiful lanterns from glass and Maple or white Oak from my home near Toronto, Canada. Please Note: Wood grain is a natural occurring characteristic therefore grain pattern and actual color will vary. - thanks for visiting, Dale
