An abandoned piano in the woods. Who left it here and how and why? No, it doesn't play. We opened it up and just found a lizard inside its hollow shell.

Belgian painter Alfonse Van Besten (1865-1926) embraced technology, utilising innovative color processes to transfer black and white photographs into vivid, at times lurid autochromes. The way that Margaret Bowland depicts little girls with their faces painted white, wearing cotton wreaths on their heads or how she paints little people in a grand style that's reminiscent of Manet, the famous 19th Century French painter, conjure up ideas about deeply rooted beliefs and societal prejudices. Bowland speaks about her work as a reaction to common mainstream belief structures. She identifies this societal ideal as “One must be tall, thin and white. Children’s clothing evolved as time went by during the Victorian era. Many of these styles mirrored the adult styles of the day to some extent. Small girls wore crinoline petticoats like their mothers. There was a significant difference between the clothes worn by girls and their mothers. The length of the skirts worn by little girls was short than their mothers. Around the age of 16 a girls skirt would be full length down to the ankles just like their mothers. In fact, by this time the well to do young ladies would be dressing in the same fashion as adults. Until the late 1800’s girls were still wearing corsets. Below is a collection of 37 vintage portraits of beautiful teenage girls from the Victorian era.

Marie Doro was an American stage and film actress of the early silent film era. She was first noticed as a chorus-girl by impresario Charles Frohman, who took her to Broadway, where she also worked for William Gillette of Sherlock Holmes fame, her early career being largely moulded by these two much-older mentors. Although generally typecast in lightweight feminine roles, she was in fact notably intelligent, cultivated and witty. (source)

SATISFACTION GUARANTEED We produce the highest quality professional photography print reproductions available on the market and pride ourselves on 5 star product and customer service. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, just reach out on Etsy message so we can make it right! PRO TIP In printing, like so many other services, a lot of factors determine the quality of the reproduction. How thick (or flimsy) the paper is, the resolution of the original photograph, the expertise of the individual processor/printer and the time spent polishing the image to perfection prior to printing. Before you purchase a print from just any vendor, look to see if they use a third party printing service/drop shipper, or do they control the entire process by producing and shipping the print themselves? Do they use a commercial printer, or do they simply print on a commonplace laser printer like you would find at Office Max or in a home? What paper do they use? Note: Digital downloads are typically just pulled from the internet with no work done to improve their appearance. Both of us at AntiquePhotoArchive are perfectionistic artistic technicians and have decades of professional experience both in printing and in the interior and graphic design fields.
