Stephen Dowle offers up a terrific selection of previously unpublished photographs documenting the British bus and coach scene of the late 1970s.
Leyland Atlantean AN68/1R Northern Counties. The Christmas Cracker 2013 Victoria Station Approach, Manchester
This wonderful Alexander bodied Daimler Fleetline. From my childhood, I've always liked the Alexander 'D Type' which stood out dramatically against PMT's myriad of angular Weymann Atlanteans. Here, preserved Midland Scottish SMS 120P makes its way along the High Street in Kirkby Stephen, it's wonderful blue and cream livery looking its best on an almost cloudless day. Modern day bodybuilders could learn a thing or two from a ride on this bus, it's totally taut and with no rattles as it approaches 40th birthday.
Old Glasgow bus at St Enoch Square. A number 31 (St Enoch-Carmunnock) about to set off. Bus number 31 still goes to Carmunnock from Glasgow. I remember travelling on these old buses as a wee boy and they were really uncomfortable. My late mother used to call them "tin lizzies" ! She preferred the "caurs" (the old tramcars). The vacant land in the background became a Coopers store and is now occupied by a Somerfield store. (scanned from an old photograph)

Merseyside PTE 2071 (YKF 709K), a 1972 Bristol VRT/LL6G with East Lancs H49/31D body seen at Liverpool Pier Head bus station 4/9/72
I think this may be by A N Wolstenholme - and it may be a scraperboard illustration. Of interest to me is that it shows a Rochdale Corporation bus - reputedly NDK 969 - fleet number 269 - that would have been a Weymann bodied AEC, a typical bus from the Corporation bus fleet. The route is a bit of a mix! - the 10 went to Turf Hill (not the 13) and it wouldn't have run via John Street.

Crosville Motor Services Ltd ECW (H43/31F) Bristol VRT/SL3/501 RMA 434V fleet number DVL434 (new March 1980 5,000th bus purchased by Crosville) carrying advertising to promote it is the 5,000th bus purchased by Crosville. The location is the Crosville owned Delamere Street bus station in Chester, now a car park and flats, the driver is carefully reversing DVL434 into place alongside Crosville SNL414 Leyland National LWA 414T based at Heswall depot, note the coach type mirrors fitted to the National. DVL434 was based at Crosville's Rhyl depot when photographed. So what does the code DVL denote? D double-deck, V VRT, L Leyland engine, an Olympian would be DOG.
