"My first real job was as a paralegal — but I hated it," writes Marcia Porch of Winter Park, Florida. "There were plenty of signs that my interests lay elsewhere; it just took me a while to recognize them. My co-workers caught on faster: They would tease me because there were always cookbooks on my desk. So I started moonlighting at a bakery on the weekends. Eventually this led to a culinary career that has included owning a catering business. These days, what I make at home has to have do-ahead steps and no complicated ingredients, and be healthful and simple to assemble. " Try this effortlessly elegant dish with steamed rice. I have had a passion for auto racing for most of my life. It began 59 years ago when my father, Ted Brown, drove his first race in an Austin Healey 100 at St. Joseph, Missouri. I was only nine years old at the time. But from that moment I was hooked! Dad raced from 1955 to 1960 driving Healey's, MG's, Triumph and Alfa Romeo Gullietta's. Dad quit in 1960 hoping I would lose interest but it was too late! I must say that racing sports cars has been very good for me in shaping my life. It taught me focus, perserverance and to set goals. It has also taught me that I can do anything in this world I set my mind to do. I have always had to fund my passion personally without help so many of lifes lessons were to be learned to continue. I began competiting myself in 1967 driving an Austin Cooper "S" in SCCA's class C-Sedan. My first drivers school was at War Bonnet Raceway just outside of Tulsa Oklahoma. John McComb and Mark Donahue were my assigned driving instructors. Mark Donahue was the honorary Grand Marshall for the event. Based on my lap times John and Mark decided it would be fun to make me run with the "big boys" in my first race. I started the race from the pole position and was surrounded by what seemed like giants from inside my tiny Mini. I was fearful they would crush me. However, I took solace knowing that my mini was a terror for the first eighth of a mile which was about the distance to the first corner. When they dropped the green flag for the start , I took off and held my own going into the first corner. I remember my rearview mirror being full of Corvette grill spokes thru-out the race. Amazingly, I ACTUALLY WON! John and Mark were both rolling on the ground with laughter. This is the begining of a long interesting story so check back often as I update it with more thoughts and memories. I will be talking about historical events such as watching Phil Hill, the first American World Champion, and his Monza Ferrari racing through the Kettle Moraine hills of Elkart Lake racing with the likes of legends Walt Hansgen and Briggs Cunningham in their D-type Jaguars. I was there! And it was only yesterday!

Monty Don was born on 8th July 1955 in West Berlin where his father was a serving soldier. He was given the name Montagu Denis Wyatt Don and has a twin sister. Monty Don's young life involved a strict upbringing. He attended 3 public schools before going on to attend a comprehensive school where he failed his A levels. Monty had already found his love of gardening and farming as a teenager. Whilst he was resitting his A levels at evening classes worked on a pig farm and building sites. Monty Don met wife Sarah whilst he was studying English at Magdalene College in Cambridge. Monty Don has three children - Adam, Freya and Tom. His early careers included dustman, grave digger and waiter and a failed novelist. Monty launched a costume jewellery company with his jeweller wife Sarah Don. This career move is his most quoted and it was during the flamboyant 1980s that Monty Don Jewellery was a success. You can find examples of Monty Don Jewellery on Pinterest and for sale on eBay. The jewellery business eventually went bankrupt leaving them living with Sarah's parents. During this time the start of what was to be a life long battle with depression and seasonally affected disorder (SAD) reared its head. He treated this with cognitive behavioural therapy, drug treatment and the use of a light box. Monty is a huge advocate to the healing power of gardening, the mud on your hands and the pleasure of watching the rewards grow. “The real importance of gardening is the empowerment that it gives people, however small or seemingly insignificant their gardens might be. It is surprising how liberating it is, if you can grow anything at all.” – Monty Don Monty's early passion for gardening started bearing fruit although never having any formal training. Monty Don's garden Longmeadow is not open to the public. Monty has a weekly gardening column in the Observer and has also wrote for the Daily Mail and Mail on line. A gardening slot on this morning started what was to be the first of many and Monty Don has been a Gardeners World presenter since 2003. Monty in his first appearance on Tomorrows World British gardener Monty Don began his TV career as a presenter on the popular TV garden makeover show Real Gardens with Carol Klein and Ann-Marie Powell. Real Gardens was different from the usual format as helped the gardeners through out the season develop their own gardens. Monty Don was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2018. Have you ever had someone tell you your were not going to make it or were not suited for your dream or career? Many of us have. Opera Singer Joyce DiDonato tells about her experience with discouragement in the video below. How do WE become resilient in the face of discouragement or criticism? Because we are flawed, we can all expect criticism from time to time. "If the criticism comes from someone who doesn’t know you at all (and often this is the case on the internet) it is possible that the cr
