This sketch of martinis at Bemelman's Bar was created on authentic hotel stationery. The drawing is floated against a warm white mat for added depth, and framed in black walnut. Please note that any purchased pieces from the O.N.S. Artist Residency will remain on view at O.N.S. until the end of the show in December, at which point they can be picked up or shipped.
Although his creative career started in architecture, UK based artist and designer Alex Khabbazi now explores form and materiality in two dimensions. His process combines physical and digital techniques to create bold, decisive artworks featuring analogue textures and undulating shapes. Aside from designing standalone prints, Alex lends his distinctive style to select musicians, record labels and fashion brands for collaborative releases.
We’re a day out from Thanksgiving, so it’s about time I share a post about our 2021 Halloween costumes!
According to a recent study, the U.S. market for self-improvement is $9.9 billion. Despite that, many therapists think that self-help books are useless. Gregg Williams, for example, says that change is hard, improvements happen unevenly, involve many steps and take a lot of time. Nothing even remotely close to what the self-help reads are preaching. Luckily, Johan Deckmann has something that's way better. By day, Deckmann analyzes the human behavior; by night, he writes down his observations as titles for fictional self-help publications. Using books found in antique shops as a canvas, the practicing psychotherapist transforms their boring covers into witty jokes. Even though most of his pieces balance between the hilarious and the poignant, their faded color and worn texture take the readers on an emotional journey of self-reflection and soul-searching.

Cottagecore Aesthetic Painting -"Pomegranate" fruits and trees were popular symbols in ancient Asian and Mediterranean art. It is customary to have it on New Year's Eve or Thanksgiving tables, with the belief that it will bring abundance to the home. As a symbol in ancient art it is generally used to denote fertility and abundance, a meaning which holds true in traditions throughout the Orient. The connection that the pomegranate bears to fertility and abundance is derived from the fact that it has many sweet and beautiful seeds that are contained within the fruit itself. Aside from being a source of healthy sweet juice, the pomegranate was useful by textile & felt artists for color purposes. The dye makers would produce a red color dye from the pomegranate’s flowers and the tannin within its rind was used for tanning leather hides. Tannin is also a useful compound that is frequently used in natural medicine with a variety of applications. Needle felted merino wool, with nuno-felted silk inclusions, hand-dyed silk tops, sari silk waste, mohair tops, viscose tops, Harris tweed threads, curly locks, spun silk threads, and hand-dyed silk carrier rods. For all of these reasons, the pomegranate design and fruit itself is always highly prized. Predominantly for its aesthetic look, medicinal properties and practical uses (Schneider). When used as a symbol in art from these regions it can thus be interpreted as representing fertility, healthy and plentiful bounty. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Suzi-Homefaker/157277567665756 Kitsch-Back: What is Kitsch to You? If you look at your dictionary or Wikipedia, you may find kitsch defined as ‘gaudy, cheap, and tacky.’ This description does not to justice to the international phenomenon we fondly know as kitsch. A word borrowed from the German language, its orginal meaning has it associated with tackiness and trashiness. Yet it is also fresh, funky and fabulous. You can find it all over the world, emboying different media and styles. There is a quirky kind of magic to it, an irrestible charm if you get to know it. What does it mean to you? Is there even such a thing as ‘too kitsch’ or ‘too much kitsch’? No! Of course not. I know it was alot of pictures, and thanks for looking!!! So please refrain from practices that you would not want done to your artwork. Thank you!
This haunting show, in the cool gallery spaces high above the city that Dora Maar knew so well, makes it clear that she was indeed a star, a leading figure in Surrealist photo-montage of the mid-1930s. Maar’s largest exhibition in France, it contains over 400 of her works, yet, like the model in the banner, she turns away, and hides her face, remaining enigmatic in her work. In Self-Portrait with Fan (1930), she shows only her reflection in a mirror, her serious gaze shrouded by the circles of an electric fan. She looks as if she might blow away, dissolve into fragments.
