“Nobody would affirm that the tree grows its crown in the image of its root. Between above and below can be no mirrored reflection.”
Ming Chan seems like a typical shutterbug – showing up for an interview with a hefty backpack filled with his favourite Polaroid cameras, photographs and films, but photography is more than a hobby for him. Chan has found his creative language combining retro Polaroid imageries with iPhone photography.

I can't believe I forgot to post this?! I suppose there has been so much going on lately. Sometimes I think I would forget my head if it was not attached to my body. My blog, definitely has Facebook envy, so I should give it a little more love, I know. Here's the scoop.... I am teaching @ ARTFEST, in beautiful Port Townsend in 2012!!! Woo-hooo! Can you tell, how excited I am. first- I am so in awe of Teesha Moore and everything she does. It is such an honor to be asked to teach at this amazing art retreat that she and Tracy put together every year. This is their 13th year!! second- I have three terrific classes lined up.... Soul Houses Books Unbound and... a brand new class.... Sailor's Valentines.... It's going to be so much fun to meet a new group of talented people and make art together! third- I have never been to Washington state. I can't wait to get there and see everything the Seattle area has to offer. I'm hoping you will join me in this creative exploration... find out more about the classes, registration and ARTFEST in general at the ARTFEST12 website. There's a ton of stuff going on in the next two months, so stay tuned for all the updates to come....There's new classes in Williston @ Artist's Medium, The annual Art of Horror show @ the SPACE gallery, Art-Is-You in Danbury, CT, and a solo exhibition @ Black Cap Coffee roasters in Stowe (which opens next weekend!) and.... don't forget... if you live in the Burlington area.... you still have a week to get in some last minute art-hopping. There's one week left to see the Art Hop juried show @ SEABA's office @ 404 Pine Street. My piece, Litany of Fear, is in the running for the people's choice award. Make sure to get down there and check it out! Ok, glad we got to get caught up.... Time to get back to work! Creatively yours! Lorraine

I call it a “reunion” because that is what it felt like to me...not two strangers meeting for the first time but two old friends who had been long parted. I imagine that in another time...another place, most likely Paris, we were great “amies.” We were school chums a la “Madeline”. We chose each other first when choosing teams...we shared each other’s lunches...we skimmed rocks on “La Seine” and hop scotched our summers away. As we grew...we shared first loves and first heart breaks. We cried..we laughed...and we missed each other when we each left to “pursue our individual dreams.” We reunited in Paris (mais oui) and rented a flat together on the Champs-Elysees. We filled it with brocante finds and shared tresors. We bought fresh baguettes & chocolat at Chez Pierro just around the corner and sipped French wine while sharing secrets under La Tour Eiffel. We understood each other without ever speaking a word. Kindred spirits...soul sisters. And on a late summer day in New England, we “reunited” once again. Arm in arm, as if we were never parted,we picked up in this life where we left off in the other. The quintessential town of Brimfield and its’ famous Annual Flea Market was the perfect place for two old souls like us to meet. And what a “reunion” it was! Here is that very special and memorable day in pictures..... "ParisGal56" and "Moi" I wish we had taken more pictures together but time stood still and flew by almost simultaneously and the day was over before we knew it. Someday Mon Amie.....some day...I hope this will be us..... In the meantime.....
Hi friends!Today I wanted to discuss a more serious topic. Awkward, maybe. But this is business after all, so it needs to be dealt with. This post feels like preaching to the choir, because honestly it's something I've struggled with the ENTIRE time I've had a business.Painting furniture started for me as a hobby. Something adult to do while my kids took naps, a reason to get out of the house from time to time. And I figured, if I made money at it, great. Everyone, friends, family, even customers were saying I didn't charge enough. So I slowly began increasing my prices, and learning to value my time and talent a bit more, and here's what I've learned in the process...
