This must be Rose Cottage. I've never even heard of this hamlet but now I must go. Blaise Hamlet is a hamlet in north-west Bristol England, composed of a complex of small cottages around a green. They were built around 1811 for retired employees of Quaker banker and philanthropist John Scandrett Harford, who owned Blaise Castle House. The hamlet was designed by John Nash, master of the Picturesque style. He had worked for Harford on other buildings. The cottages are now owned by the National Trust. They are still occupied and not open to the public, but the ensemble may be viewed from the outside. All the cottages, and the sundial on the green (which is accessible to the public), are Grade I listed buildings. Rose Cottage is now rented out by the National Trust as a holiday cottage. image source There is a composit of all the cottages HERE on Flickr. What a wonderful man John Harford must have been. The whole concept gives me goose bumps, and knowing he carried it out is simply wonderful. This must be one of the most charming places in all of England. Have a great weekend.
This is the delightfully pretty cottage where Judy and I spend a considerable amount of time when we are not away travelling. The former farm cottage in Isham in Northamptonshire dates from 1668 and is Grade II-listed. Originally it is thought that the ground floor was used to house animals with the living accommodation in the loft being reached via a ladder. I'm delighted to say that these days it has all mod cons.
'Tis the season to curl up and watch the now-classic Nancy Meyers rom-com 'The Holiday', and we've put together a guide to decorating your house as if you were Kate Winslet in the English countryside.

For the last year I have been living in a very large home that has been overwhelming to take care of. I often find myself looking at charming cottages wishing my life were a little more simple. Some words of advice for many of you who dream to have a larger home... DON'T DO IT!! Less is more! Keep things simple! Nothing is better than a perfect size home that meets the needs your family. I can't stand large, boxy homes with no detail or thought... what a waste. Small, simple and charming is what it's all about! Below are some images of charming fairy tale homes: I hope you all have a wonderful week!

One of the things my husband and I enjoy is walking. The girls are not always that keen, but now that they get older they seem to enjoy it more. Walking not only clears the mind, but it keeps you fit as well. It's also a great way to enjoy the countryside; the wildlife, amazing views, ancient cottages, streams full of trout and fields with corn. The best thing is to end your walk with a cream tea. We enjoy that very much! When your left foot doesn't want to get in front of your right foot anymore, it's good to have something so delicious to look forward to :-)! The special thing about walking in England is that you have 'right of way', which means that you have the privilige to pass over someone else's land. It enables you to see special places, farmhouses and land you would never see otherwise. As far as I know there is only one area in The Netherlands you have 'right of way' as well, and that's in certain areas of Limburg. The photos you see today were taken during walks we made in the area of Nettleton, Castle Combe and Lacock. I will show you some more photo's soon. I wish you a happy start of the new week! Lieve groet, Madelief

As cozy English cottage style is ever-popular, we created your guide to styling your home for that rustic cottage feel.
I spent time cleaning around the garden today, the sun warmed my face, and two special kitties were my constant companions. We had our first hard freeze of the season a few nights earlier, and so any flowers still in bloom, had now died. It's always a sad time viewing the empty window boxes, and flower pots, which were so full of color, a few days earlier. The Morning Glory vines were still full of blooms, but sadly their lives were cut short. How they made me smile each day.
