What is your personal response to Euthansia after having read both sides of the argument? Refer back to the article in your response. Do you believe it an act of good will to allow Curly's dog to die as he is suffering a less than dignified existance and is in a great deal of pain? Or do you believe it to diminish the sanctity of life by putting Curly's dog down? Is Carlson wrong to suggest the notion in chapter 2 of OMAM? 3. Read over the Found Poems above for reference in class next week. 4. Section 3: Turn in chart with 5 points that extend both the argument that George is a good or bad friend.
I never struggled with insomnia, never understood the concept. I would be asleep before my head hit the pillow and stayed blissfully asleep throughout the night. Then I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1993, and that's pretty much when the wonders of restorative sleep became a vague memory. There are many nights when it seems impossible to get "comfortable enough" to even fall asleep, let alone stay sleeping. These past several years have been especially difficult due to family issues and unemployment woes. My head whirls and twirls and rarely shuts down. So yeah, I now get the whole insomnia thing. Unfortunately. Here's a page I completed a few months ago which gives a hint of the crazy stuff running through my brain while I'm trying to sleep. Take a peek and then crack open your journal and create a work of art!

Yesterday, I showed you a card with THE Perfect Bow! I want to tell you how easy it is ... Because none of my cards or bows are perfect I call it the EZY BOW! Here's how I tie my bows: You need about 40cm for wide ribbon like this, only about 25 cm for ribbon half as wide like the 1" satin ribbon I showed you last time. 1. Wrap the piece of ribbon around your two fingers (hold them as if you were playing: scissors, paper, rock) with the short end of the ribbon at the front. 2. Bring the long end up and through the holes made by your first and second fingers. 3. Wrap it around behind and to the right. Leave your thumb in place under the loop of ribbon. 4. Poke the long end into the hole held open with your thumb. This ties a knot around the ribbon. 5. Pull the long end up and to the left to tighten it. 6. Turn your hand over and you can see the knot that is made in the centre of your bow. Just slide it off your two fingers, trim the ends to size and ... 7. There you have it the EASY Perfect Bow! Hint: I attach it to my cardstock with a dimensional adhesive spot, or a mini glue dot works just as well. To get a neat pointed edge I use the Paper snips and fold the ribbon in half lengthwise to get a nice notch cut into it.
gotta love the Ginghams...

It is no secret that crafting has become big business. It's not just for elementary school craft shows and flea markets anymore. One of a kind handmade creations are popping up in trendy boutiques and can be found on websites like etsy, which provides crafters with an online marketplace to sell their creative compositions all over the world! I strongly believe that crafting is in my genes! Lil me, My Mom, Lil Sis c.1986 (please note the crocheted blanket made by my Mom, next to Lil sis) My amazingly talented Mom can do it all, especially craft! I like to think that is where I got my start. I remember going to craft shows with her and finding unique pieces and hearing her say, " I can do that". We would often buy the piece and take it home to properly inspect or dissect and use as pattern for my Mom to make her own version! As an homage to my Mom's crafting abilities, this week's Unique Picks are all about fantastic handmade creations found on etsy that remind me of some of the various craft projects that my mom has tackled over the years. Crochet: I have never really been able to master this...sure my Mom tried to teach me but I never was able to make it past the single chain. (turning the corner is always where I would screw it up). She would often crochet little baby hats and scarves made of pastel space dyed yarn, as gifts for friends and family's new editions. I love this scarf found in CBurbach etsy shop. What can I say I am a sucker for space dyed yarn and love the color combination in this scarf in particular. Crochet with a new twist. These are seriously sweet. How about a beautiful bouquet of crocheted flowers from suili's craft shop. Rag Baskets: I think my mom picked up on this craft in the early 1990's and I was really excited to see these fantastic updated versions on etsy. I love the vibrant colors used in these nesting bowls from sosorosey's etsy shop. I also love this one from Raggedy Ann's shop that is upcycled from a vintage pillow case. The Sassy Lady Beaded Bandanna: This trend in crafting did not escape our house. I would plan entire outfits based around this amazing accessory made by my Mom. picture found in the guidespot's blog post "Why on EARTH did I ever wear THAT?!" I was not surprised that that I was unable to find these on etsy but what I did find was a new twist on creating accessories using bandannas. This necklace is from gpearson55 on etsy. Needle Point: This technique looks seriously time consuming and highly detailed and I don't know if I would have the patience or ability to complete something like this so I will just enjoy this piece of my Mom's handy work. direct from 1980 this is a Priscilla (my Mom) original. Vintage needle point is still hot! (at least in my opinion) I love this pick, not just because it's my first initial or that it is vintage, but because it really is cool! I would totally wear this! This listing is from Heist Sale Rack's etsy shop, and you are in luck if you are looking for a needle point pendant and you have the initials "S" or "a". Cross Stitch: Yup she was on top of that one too. I do admit that I did try my hand at cross stitching when I was younger but would often find myself getting lost in the cross stitch patterns (I am not very good at reading directions). My favorite part about this craft was choosing the colors of the floss. I do love that cross stitching has made a new an exciting come back. (Maybe it never went away and I am now just appreciating it again.) Not just your typical "Home Sweet Home" messages anymore. This cross stitch pattern from The Voracious Brain is the type of message I can really wrap my head around. And I find this cross stitch creation from Needles & Pins: Vulgar Cross Stitching's not only charming but the message is delightfully true. Ribbon Barrettes: One of my all time favorite crafts that my mom made! I can't tell you how excited I got when I saw these listed on etsy. Direct from the 80's and delightfully girly, these braided ribbon barrettes can still be found in Retroeighties's shop. No need to improve or update this crafty accessory in my opinion. What is not to love, pretty colors, hair accessory, long flowy ribbon tails... I hope you have enjoyed my Unique Picks this week as I walked down craft memory lane. I seriously loved finding new and exciting versions of some of the crafts that my Mom has mastered through the years!

Here I am neglecting my blog and all my wonderful bloggy friends. Shame on me! I'm very behind on my blog reading; after Alex's party on Sunday, I hope to be able to do some catching up. Some random things around my house: Alex's new shoes. She doesn't know what to make of them. The rainbow yarn bowl my beautiful, talented, artistic daughter Hope made me for Mother's Day. No more yarn rolling away! She also made me this little box. It had chocolate in it; that didn't last long. Now I throw my orts in it as I stitch. Every couple days I empty them into the big jar. Speaking of which, I missed TUSAL (again). It was a couple of days ago. This is being hosted by It's Daffycat. The yarn is probably two-three month's worth. The thread is from all year; I'm trying to fill the jar by the end of December. I finished the body of the corner to corner blanket I'm making for my nephew, Luke; my sister-in-law is due in June, so I need to get cracking on the border. I'm using Red Heart With Love in Peacock for that. I still have a lot of roses to make for the Granny Rose CAL, but I added the green to the ones I have. I'm using Loops and Threads Impeccable in Fern. This is being hosted by Astri of Apple Blossom Dreams. I have some progress to show on a few of my starts; I think I'm the slowest stitcher in the world, but at least I'm still adding stitches. One day I'll finish something. Brew by Lizzie Kate Amazing by Kincavel Krosses (free chart) Pretty Little New York by Jody Rice of Satsuma Street. This is a weekly SAL with Linda and Jo. Life's Piece-makers Actually, once in a while, I do finish something. I finished my chart for this month's Smalls SAL a week early, but I won't show it until Wednesday. I'll leave you with some fiber funnies. Thanks for reading and looking. Blessings :-)

Time for another Vintage Recipe Thursday from Joy Of Desserts. As usual, I'm using my grandmother's cookbook For the Love of Cooking. This time I decided to make Peanut Butter Cream Pie. I'm ashamed to admit how much peanut butter we eat in my house. So much peanut butter, in fact, that I wish Sam's Club actually carried an extra-extra bulk sized Jif. If you are trying to eat moderately healthy, you will want to skip this one. Peanut Butter Cream Pie 3/4 cup powdered sugar 1/3 cup peanut butter 2/3 cup sugar 3 tbsp cornstarch 1 tbsp all purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 3 egg yolks 3 cups milk 2 tbsp butter 1 tsp vanilla Baked 9 inch pie shell 3 egg whites 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 1/4 cup sugar Cream powdered sugar and 1/3 cup peanut butter until crumbly. Set aside. Combine 2/3 cup sugar, cornstarch, flour, salt, egg yolks, milk, butter, and vanilla in a saucepan or in top of double broiler over hot water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Sprinkle 2/3rds of the peanut butter mixture in bottom of baked pie shell; pour custard over this. Beat 3 egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff, gradually adding 1/4 cup sugar. Spread over custard. Sprinkle remaining crumbly mixture over meringue, bake at 350* about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Yeah, this dessert didn't go over well in my house at all (wink, wink). Have you ever made a choice in your life, that you just felt was right for you, even though logic told you otherwise? You had no way of knowing whether it was right or wrong, but your gut told you and turns out it was the right choice. Well, that gut feeling is actually your intuition, the connection with your higher self that leads you towards the best possible outcome. However, it only happens sometimes, because we are so disconnected from ourselves and our intuition. One of the easiest ways to strengthen your intuition is through rune divination. What are runes?Wait, what are runes exactly? Well, runes are actually an ancient Germanic alphabet. Like any alphabet, they were used for writing, but it was also believed that the runes have magical powers and were often used in magical rituals as well as for divination. There are 25 runes, and each rune in the alphabet has its own specific meaning. Although they have their own meaning, using rune divination can be tricky, because you always have to be specific with your questions and ponder on the answers. The word rune itself can be translated like “mystery, secret, whisper”. And it’s only appropriate because when doing rune divination, your intuition “whispers” to you and unveils the mysteries and secrets in your life. How to use your runes for divination?Although runes can be used for checking what your close future may hold for you, the readings are not set in stone. That means that you can change your future, which is why runes are mostly used for solving current issues and gaining further insight into your current situation and situations of the past. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t use them for checking up on your future as well, you just have to know the way. Today we are sharing a couple of beginner runic divination techniques to get you started! Here is how to use your runes for divination:- Daily RuneWhen starting off with runic divination, the trickiest part is to learn all the runes, their meanings, and what they mean for you, in that specific situation. The easiest way to understand your runes better is to start with daily rune readings. Every morning when you wake up, focus on the question – “What does today hold for me?” – and pick a random rune. Then study what the rune means from the chart in the rune set. But, don’t stop there. Reflect on the current occurrences and try to think of what it could mean for you, in your specific situation. It would be best to take some notes. Then, after the day passes, reflect on what happened, and how you can relate those situations to your rune reading. Take some notes and compare them daily to get a better insight into rune divination, your life, and your closest future.- The cast of three V1Place the wood runes in front of you in random order. Close your eyes, and take a few more deep breaths. Then, place your hand in front of you, and feel the energy flowing around you. Choose a rune that you are most drawn to. Then open our eyes to see the rune. Place the rune in front of you, on your left side. Close your eyes again. Take a few more deep breaths and repeat the same process until you choose three runes. Set the second next to the first rune, from the right, and the third rune next to the second rune, on its right. Now open your eyes. The runes in front of you represent answers to three major problems, issues, or situations in general in your life: The first rune - Is an answer to your past. The second rune - Is an answer to your present. The third rune - Represents an answer to what there is yet to come. - Ask A QuestionAnother great way to all you newbies in runic divination is to think of questions before you do the reading. Start off by writing down a few questions that you have. Then take a look at the questions. If they are too generic, you have to start to formulate them to be more specific. The more details, the more specific the questions – the better your reading will go. Then, start by focusing on the first question. Close your eyes and choose a rune that you feel like you are drawn to the most. Then open your eyes and check the chart for its meaning. Repeat until you are done with all your questions. We are hoping that you found our runic divination guide helpful!Tune in to our blog to learn more about Runes and Divination!
Whoa. Silly Putty is weird.
The nalbinding knotwork bug is still biting. Just after the cowl was finished, I dug out my trusty old (20+ years old) copy of Celtic Art: The Methods of Construction. I tried several different knots. The ones with large gaps do not seem to work nicely with my attempts. But tight close together knots like the ones below seem to look good after they are created. The second one is the one that caught my interest for a fashion scarf (too many holes to be a practical scarf) done in Finnish 2+2 stitch. With these knots I haven't been counting stitches obsessively like I did with the pretzel knot cowl. I just work long chains of the yarns and make the knots. I'll keep going with the knots (below) until I run out of green. I suspect these knots could be done in rows and be a fabric by themselves. But I don't have enough green to test that theory. So I'll edge it in blue to make the scarf a tad wider. The circle vest I've been working on officially has been given the nickname "The Vest that Never Ends". It's taking quite a while to finish the project, but I also thought it fit because the colors spiral out from the center into what looks like infinity and they get lost in the stripe effect. Only 2-4 more inches? Maybe there is an end after all...
