This Museum Collection wall tapestry shows the Tree of Life, designed by William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) who was an English textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. This wall tapestry is woven in Belgium on a jacquard loom with 100% cotton thread. It is lined with a beige cotton backing and is finished with a rod sleeve. The gobelin quality is obtained by a denser, thicker weft and as such is somewhat heavier than the regular tapestry quality. Avaialable in 4 sizes Fabric Care: remove dust with hoover. Do not hang on wall with longtime exposure to sunlight Origin : woven and finished in Belgium, cradle of tapestry weaving ! October has just begun and the soon arrival of the colors of autumn! Fair days, hay rides, corn field mazes, and halloween parties will be coming around in the following weeks... Man, I'm excited! I hoped to celebrate this fun month through a series of enticing, fall-inspired art posts (That's right-Jordan is back for now)! To ignite this series of posts, today's focus will be on returning to nature, to harvest,... to the land. I hope you enjoy this assortment of the art of the land and that you may get inspired by the fall palates they showcase. All of these pieces are unique in design so I would encourage you to investigate these techniques. Nothing compares to New England in the Fall. While all four seasons are special, New England really puts on it’s best show late September and October when a slight chill is in the air and the leaves turn crimson and gold. I anticipate this change in season all year long. The first brisk morning and the onset of sweater weather, apple picking with family and friends, carving jack-o-lanterns on the kitchen table, bundling up for a local arts & crafts festival, driving around country roads to peep the fall foliage, and stocking up on cider donuts, kettle corn and apple cider are a few traditions that make this time of year remarkable.

This fall we released several new Kiel James Patrick flannel dresses and shirts in addition to fall kids sweaters. Sharing a couple of the new styles here today along with some autumn pictures to set the mood. This month is flying by and I’m holding onto the season for as long as long as I can — the season is far too short. We stopped by our favorite Cider Mill in CT this weekend and are trying to do all of the fall things on our bucket list before everyone kicks into holiday mode.
We look at Cicely Mary Barker's The Flower Fairies illustrations from a new exhibition at Mottisfont Abbey.
My daughter Colleen left today for a teaching position in Korea. It's not the first time she has gone overseas. She studied abroad in Sevilla, Spain for a year and taught in Extremadura, Spain a couple years later. So I guess I'm broken in and definitely not a nervous wreck like the first time. But I still missed her the minute she walked out the door. How is it possible to be proud and feel sad at the same time? So I'm comforting myself by eating a bunch of candy and showing a book I read to all my kids, (3 girls, 1 boy) and my grandson. Poems to Read to the Very Young ranks high in sentimentality for me and I love some of the poems in this book. Beautifully illustrated by Eloise Wilkin, who had a lovely way of portraying children. Wilkin used her children and in later years, grandchildren as models. Eloise Wilkin (1904-1987), an award winning illustrator and author, had a career that spanned over 50 years. Wilkin is best known for her Golden Books, working for them for almost 20 years and illustrating over 50 books for Golden, some of which are still in print. Many of her books have become classics. In her career she illustrated well over 100 books! To read about Eloise Wilkin, Cassandra of Cassandra Considers All Things Bright and Beautiful did a very comprehensive post on the life of Wilkin in 2010 - to view that click here. Eloise's daughter, Deborah Wilkin Springett, wrote a book about her mother's life, called The Golden Years of Eloise Wilkin.
