This lovely home in San Carlos may be be somewhat nondescript on the exterior which some may consider a negative trait. Fortunately for our clients, we like to look at the glass half full. With no historical architecture to drive the aesthetics of the interior, the options for a creative direction were wide open to us. The clients requested a kitchen that was more high end restaurant in terms of design while maintaining an intimacy for a family of four. We delivered alongside a scope that rapidly expanded to include all the bathrooms in the home. Brightness, color and fun abound and we love the finished spaces as much as the clients.
Chaque nouvelle année apporte un lot de tendances à adopter, certaines passagères et d'autres marquantes. En voici 7 à découvrir en 2023.
How a couple breathed new life into a historic central Victorian farmhouse. Ewing Farm in Tylden, central Victoria, was built in 1862 and now more than a century later, cloaked in antiquity, it's a place that captures your imagination. Meet the family who faithfully restored the property and now call it home.
When we hear the word, rustic, we usually think of back to nature materials like wood, stone and the country life living which surrounds your senses with the smell of pine trees. Rustic Kitchen Designs portray a special style and can sometimes be seen as simple, artless, or unsophisticated. But having a rustic kitchen design can bring some warming elements to a home to make them feel cozy and warm if the right textures and elements are used.
A significant trend in design lately has been wallpaper. Before you gasp and remember the floral wallpaper your grandmother had in the ’70s, there are some exciting new products being offered today. Store to Abode Fridays is all about taking something we sell at The Old Lucketts Store or our Design House and showing you how to decorate with it. We got word today that our supply of milk paint will be at The Old Lucketts Store on Thursday, August 30th! So here was the inspiration item for this week: Customers ask us what they can do with the paint, what is the "look" they'll get with the paint, etc. Below are some finished pieces to give you a few ideas. Of course, you should also head over to Marian's blog, for tons of information on her new milk paint, how to use it, examples of finished projects, and of course, her video tutorials. {1} In general, you don't need a lot of milk paint for a project, and this project is no exception. Martha Stewart revamped some old terra cotta pots with milk paint --- love the bright greens against these grey pots with a rope detail. {source} {2} Can you believe this was a plain white dresser before milk paint and antiquing glaze was applied? {source} {3} Milk paint isn't just for furniture. Milk paint was applied to the ceilings, beams and floors in this farmhouse / industrial space, turned bedroom {not sure I'd want that hook above my bed while I slept though!}. {source} {4} Here is a nice pair of milk paint chairs. I wanted to point out that this person did not use a bonding agent, so as Marian mentions, milk paint will do its own distressing naturally. You can see how each chair distressed in its own way --- one slightly more than the other. Use a bonding agent if you are painting multiples or want to control the distressed look more. {source} {5} Milk paint is eco-friendly and non-toxic, making it a great choice for any household. Here is a nice application of yellow milk paint on kitchen cabinetry. {source} Please don't forget that we are having a Labor Day sale August 31st through September 3rd at The Old Lucketts Store and The Design House. Both buildings are located at 42350 Lucketts Road in Leesburg, VA and are open 10am to 5pm during the sale. Many items will be on sale, so check it out! Have a great weekend everyone!
The Kitchen is usually the most expensive room in the home. But it seems that every ten years or so, there's a new crop of kitchen trends that...
There is an old saying, "God is in the details". If that is true then Wadia Associates has been truly blessed. In doing what I do I come across a lot of design either by magazines, online publications or websites. And since there is so much out there one tends to get over saturated. So at this stage of my life it can take something pretty special to get me to the point where I am speechless (just ask my friends). When I saw Wadia Associates work I thought.... well.... actually I was quite breathless and speechless. I mean.... the detail.... the refinement..... the beauty of their work is beyond anything. Pretty big praise I know, but one that is so warranted. I wanted to share with you some of their amazing work: Picturesque Queen Anne Manor: Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates I could sit here an go on and on about how gorgeous these homes are but really...... they speak for themselves. But what I will say is how beautifully they are executed and how they are brimming with detail. Old Meets New: Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Victorian Refinement: Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates English Arts and Crafts: Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates Wadia Associates So there you have it folks. Really, do I need to say anything else except check out their other work.? In a world where everything is prepackaged I eat this kind of design up. A design that has been very skillfully and methodically crafted so that is stands apart from everything else. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they obviously have a good budget to help realize those grand designs. Have a great day everyone. Megan

♫In God's Hands♫ When I was still dreaming my "Cabin Dream" I set up a folder in my Bookmarks labeled "Cabin Dream". It included photos like this.... ....only, I'd like the house to be a little larger so it could accommodate a dining room like this for when my family is in residence.... I haven't been able to find my dream kitchen but here are some photos that touch on what I'm dreaming. I like these windows and cabinets.... ...but I prefer this stove.... ... and this island.... ....but I also like this arrangement for the greatroom/kitchen/dining room.... ....but with this cozy living room.... You'd take the stairs up to the loft.... ....where there would be three sleeping areas like this when our kids came to visit with their children, only NOT with purple bed coverings.... The master bedroom on the first floor would feel like this.... On the side of the house I'd have this screen-enclosed porch.... But I'd like a view like this from the deck off the living room.... photo credit: www.ForestWander.com When I was still dreaming we drove out to the mountains of Western Maryland to look at property. When I did not find the view I desired I became discouraged and quit dreaming. But something I read this morning has revived it. Alan Cohen says we should "Ask for 100% of what you want 100% of the time." He says when dreaming don't factor in things like finances because "When we factor finances into a choice it often obscures our vision." By setting aside this and other factors temporarily we are better able to see what we really want. I realize now this is what we did earlier this year when we decided, once and for all, to do something about all the downed trees and overgrowth in the woods next to our house. We did not let the daunting task or cost stand in our way when dreaming of what the woods could look like. This cleared the way for us to come up with a creative way to pay for the project, and, I believe, enabled us to find the right company at the right price to do it. You can see some of the before and after photos and read how God used the whole project to show me things I needed to see beginning with this first post (then continue clicking on "newer post" to go to the next post). I realize now I also need to stop "factoring in" my belief that such a view is not available within the 2-hour range we would like. I need to dream 100% of my dream 100% and leave God to work out the rest!
