Around the year Worksheet - months, days of the week, seasons (2-fach differenziert)
DAZ DAF GERMAN FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER GERMAN VOCABULARY DAYS, MONTHS, SEASONS LIST FREEBIE I like to ensure my beginner German students are able to build a comprehensive German vocabulary bank from the beginning of their learning, and create a whole range of reference lists focusing on high-frequency German vocabulary. The list is ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it useful for working in class time or at home. It's also useful for beginner German students to provide a language learning map, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment. This kind of reference resource works well when students keep them carefully in learning binders or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. The vocabulary list also shows a range of plurals and related vocabulary that students are able to use in communicative contexts straightaway, such as Am Montag (gehe ich ins Kino); Im Sommer (spiele ich Tennis). It's really useful for students to know the correct adverbs for these kinds of sentences, which really does help to promote speaking in the classroom, and enables students to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning. Students shouldn't take on the task of learning long lists of vocabulary all at once though: frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory. With this particular set of vocabulary there are many cognates and near-cognates, which helps embed the vocabulary too. I also use the books for quick vocabulary quizzes, again at frequent and regular intervals - I simply shout out the German or English word, the first student or team to shout out the correct answer wins a point. I've found this to be a really successful alternative to more formal vocabulary testing. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you're preparing resources for your students focusing on German days, months and seasons, and a range of related vocabulary, the list is a good starting point. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German vocabulary display or German grammar display, and black wave. Try this freebie too - the content is a little less detailed, and is in a box format: GERMAN DAYS MONTHS SEASONS LIST FREEBIE #1 Have a look at this set of 36 differentiated task cards focusing on dates, days, months and seasons in German: GERMAN DATES, DAYS, MONTHS & SEASONS : 36 DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS There's a free set too: GERMAN DATES, DAYS, MONTHS & SEASONS : 12 DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS FREEBIE Have a browse in my store for more German vocabulary reference lists, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning resources, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. We have been learning the days of the week, months of the year and now the seasons as part of our beginning of the year work on Calendars. Great minds must think alike because Kylie over at Down Under Teacher has been doing the same topic. Check out her blog for even more ideas! The Australian Curriculum for Mathematics requires that students can name and order the months and seasons and use a calendar to identify the date and determine the number of days in each month. I have made a simple worksheet that requires students to write in the months of the year and identify the seasons. You can download it for free. I am working on a quiz sheet that will require students to use a calendar to answer a series of questions. When I get it done, I will put it up too. My kids are going to work with a partner this week to make their own page of a class calendar that we will put up in our room to celebrate the end of this part of our learning. We have linked our study of seasons of the year to our cross-curricular priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures by learning about the seasons in Arnhem Land through reading the great picture book: Ernie Dances to the Didgeridoo by Alison Lester. The students really enjoyed the story and it lead to some great discussion about the seasons we experience in Queensland compared to places that are much colder or hotter. Because we are a Catholic school, our discussion of seasons has been a great segue into learning about the Liturgical Seasons too. We have constructed a display in our room which focuses on the different colours of the seasons. Yesterday our fantastic Assistant Principal, Michelle, came in to talk to the students about the special colours of the liturgical seasons. The children enjoyed having a special guest speaker. She used an experiment with milk and food colouring to show the different colours. The children thought it was fun to watch the colours swirling in the bowl and we had a great discussion about the "pictures" they could see within the patterns. They surprised me with their deep thinking about the colours and the seasons. I love it when all of the different things we are learning about tie together so beautifully! Have you been learning and teaching about seasons? What have your students enjoyed?
