Before Christianity arrived in the Philippines, the natives had their own polytheistic beliefs officiated by the Babaylan. But over time, they went from healers to hell-sent.

...new patterns for the June issue of The Stitchery Club. Still a couple more to come, but the main theme will be how you can use various components of my stitchery designs to create a unique design of your very own - in fact, I'll be sharing a few ideas here on the blog later in the week so I hope you drop by to glean some fresh inspiration. Want to join the Club? It's as easy as hopping over HERE. Blossom continues to bloom as her due date draws closer... ...but this week we're celebrating another birth, Blossom's own birthday. I remember that day with pure delight and wonder as it was one of the most blessed experiences of my life. Today we went shopping for some good storage items to help organise her home before the baby arrives (she's begun the nesting process) and afterwards we stopped by a new cafe for a birthday week cake and coffee treat... In our family we celebrate birthdays all week, most especially the day itself and a day either side. We even sing "Happy Un-birthday to you" on the day before and the day after! I know this is a tradition Blossom will be passing along to her little girl in the future, as well as all the other quirky family funnies that are so 'normal' to us. Do you have birthday traditions unique to your family, too? hugs

As I bid adieu to Soctober I give you my final pair of socks on this Woolly Wednesday... and aren't these electric? This is another of the Opal sock yarns called Antonia Hand-dyed. There are 3 shades of purple and one shade of orange in this skein. I went down to 60 stitches for this pair to see how it would impact the pooling and the striping. On the first sock (the one on the left) I found that on the leg the colors pooled in an undulating stripe down the leg. Once I turned the heel, the yarn made rings/stripes of color around the foot. Interesting. On the second sock, as I expected I got rings/stripes of color around the leg part and then after I turned the heel I was surprised that I got the undulating striping again. Very curious. In any case I love these socks! The surprising pattern of the color playing out kept me totally entranced for the entire pair. And here are how they look on my feet - Sorry for the pathetically pale legs. I tried to crop out as much as possible. So for the month of Socktober I completed 2 1/2 pairs of socks - 2 complete pair and 1 additional mate-less sock. That's pretty good production for me. So now that November is upon us, I have to consider what I want to knit next. There are several single socks that would like to meet their "sole" mate.... and my son could always use another pair of the big black boring socks....there are several shawls that are calling my name. Tune in later in the week and see what I end up starting. I'll be as surprised as you - LOL! happy stitching and knitting! carol fun
Embroidery is a decorative needlecraft that uses yarn or thread on canvas or fabric, but can also incorporate materials such as beads, pearls, or ribbon.

Embroidery is a valuable and acknowledged form of art, just like painting or architecture. For example, canvases created by Alighiero Boetti are sold at auctions for millions of dollars. For many of us, our own work or the work of our loved ones, friends, children, or parents, are particularly important. People from our compilation published the photos of their little masterpieces that they are proud of, admire, and are simply happy to have.
Makatki kuchenne - kiedyś popularne, później wstydliwe a obecnie wystawiane w salach muzealnych dzięki kolekcjonerom. Jeśli kogoś zainteresował temat to można go pogłębić dzięki wydanej do wystawy publikacji :): Katalog wystawy (wydany przez Muzeum Podlaskie w Białymstoku - nakład wyczerpany) - 40 stron: Zawiera historię, omówienie rodzajów makatek, techniki tworzenia, przykłady aforyzmów występujących w różnych krajach w podziale na: a) kuchnia, gospodarstwo domowe, spożywanie posiłków, b) wartości ważne w życiu każdego człowieka, c) przywary mężczyzn, d) czystość, ład i porządek, e) miłość, f) radość powitania i pożegnania dnia, g) kult ogniska domowego, gościnność, praca i ojczyzna.
