Hope you guys had a great holiday weekend! The only place that wasn't a mess during the construction was my bedroom so I spent a lot of time in there....but yesterday around 4:30 everyone was finished up and gone! After reading the title of this post you are probably thinking OK.....what? Well the first and most important thing is this "Know when you don't know". Seriously I did what I tell everyone NOT to do and started backing into this little reno. What I should have done was call Michael on day one. What I would recommend to you is spend the money and consult with an architect, contractor and a designer.....even if only for 1 hour. I started with having the cabinets raised and new doors made. Wrong. Then I had the countertops installed. Wrong. Why? Because the shiplap is thicker and I had to have Phil [the cabinet guy] come get a drawer and door to be made smaller. If I had it to do over....I would remove the countertops first, have the cabinet boxes [to take them to the ceiling] made, then have all of the trim done, install countertops and paint. 25 years in this business and still learning. So let's get to some pictures.... All new trim around doors and windows. It's called Backband. New crown called Bedmoulding. What a difference just that made. Painted the door SW Urbane Bronze. For some reason the door was about 2 1/2 inches shorter than the windows so Michael suggested to add a piece of wood to the top and paint it the dark color....kind of an "eye trick"! Invisible door. It has a touch latch on it. These huge brackets are everything to me. See before how the right side of the kitchen just kind of fell away.... This was the perfect way to add some architectural interest to my 8 ft ceiling room! The tile will go up to the ceiling...no crown. The big decision is whether to add a shelf on either side of the window. My gut says NO.....because I really think the brackets need to be the star.....your thoughts? Then if that wasn't enough.... More details....! I am doing sheer linen panels here to help raise the eye. Down come the natural wood shades which I got a Target about 15 years ago! I know y'all thought I was crazy to sell the pine bookcases but I think this will be a more updated look. Here's a treat for you.... how my kitchen looked fairly soon after moving in [1994]. Before the bookcases were even built! Yep that is some nice fake ivy on top of the cabinets:) I had white corian countertops, white sink and a white faucet! I feel like I have come back to my roots....ha ha. I know someone will ask.....the paint color is of course my favorite....BM White Dove. The shiplap is spruce. This week the tile and lighting....can't wait! 16 days until the photoshoot.....living on the edge:) Shapooped
Often, owners, choosing the best window design for a private house, prioritize the appearance of structures to achieve a spectacular facade. But here it is important to think over the glazing so that it optimally satisfies the needs of the family, and creates pleasant, comfortable living conditions. Therefore, aesthetics for a window is not the ... Read more

For years I have been recommending to my client who wants to upgrade their home to consider more trim by adding larger crown molding, larger more impressive casing around doorways and windows, taller baseboards etc. Always considering this to be an inexpensive method to create instant architectural interest. Last year I started getting away from trim appreciating the simple uncluttered look that going trim-less can offer.Crown isn’t necessary if you have an interesting ceiling. Casing is hidden
After planning my living room makeover, I decided to update our windows. One thing I for sure wanted to do was to trim the living room windows. The builder only had an apron and stool installed on each window (the piece of trim at the bottom-front), but I wanted something more substantial and decided to add casing to the entire window. The goal is to make it look more "finished", and I was looking for straight and clean lines as opposed to a more detailed trim that leads on the traditional side.
Hey friends! I'm so glad you guys are enjoying the house tour I posted yesterday on Instagram of HDawg's bedroom and bathroom. For those of you who didn't see my posts over there, I've decided to share more of our "before we moved in" house tour shots on my Instagram account (@tenjuneblog). There are just soooo many photos that haven't made it to a blog post yet, so I thought I'd take advantage of the new multi-photo swipe tool and share these tours as some mini-posts on Instagram instead! Let me know what you think and let me know if you have any questions about the spaces! Next up, I'll be sharing Lu's little girl room, my home office, our dining room and our laundry room! Today, here on the blog, I wanted to share something that I spent a TON of time researching during our build process- farmhouse trim. To be honest, I had no clue about trim work. When our builder started throwing out phrases like "cove moulding" I basically had to Google interpret what he was saying. We started with saying to our builder- here's a photo of what we like! To which he would reply- that is four times more expensive than your budget! #ouch And the funny thing is that we didn't even want anything fancy or ornate, just some basic, simple farmhouse trim. Clean lines. True to the modern farmhouse design. That's it. So we headed to the local hardware store and essentially played with the pieces they had there to come up with our own formula for simple + cheap farmhouse trim. David and I met with our carpenter team (who by the way, may have been one of the best teams during our house build, they were amazing with all of the custom pieces they did for us! but that's another post!) and they helped us confirm what we were looking for. So here it is- the magic formula! Our combination for the perfect, simple + cheap farmhouse trim. Our doors and windows are all identically framed. We framed each door/window on either side with a vertical 1x 4, then on the top piece with a horizontal 1 x 6. Above the 1x6, we added a horizontal simple cove moulding strip (the rounded part) and on top of that, a horizontal 1 x 2 firring strip. Four main pieces, people and you get this beautiful trim work. I absolutely love how it turned out. I love that it's not ornate and I love that it matches the style of our house (this would also work very well in a Craftsman house). I love that we didn't add another horizontal strip between the 1x4 and the 1x6 (something we went back and forth on for awhile and ultimately decided against to keep it... wait for it... simple). Did I mention I love this trim? ; ) We also added a few other things around the house in terms of trim work to give it an "old school" farmhouse touch, like transoms over a few of the interior doorways. They bounce around so much light and make our already 9 foot tall ceilings look even larger. It's all in the details! Have you ever tried your own trim work? This stuff ain't no joke!

I offer a unique perspective that will forever tell the story of your special day, family, or life milestones. Capture the joy with an experienced, award winning photojournalist and portrait photographer. Wedding ~ Senior ~ Family ~ Sports ~ Events About me: Please bear with me, I am not a writer, and not a fan of talking about myself. I have loved photography since my sophomore year in high school, at Mt Baker when I was shown the most wonderful place on earth, a darkroom! After that, I think I spent the majority of my time there and still miss the smell of fixer on my hands. I have kept it as a hobby ever since. My kids will have more pictures of themselves then they will ever know what to do with. I recently upgraded to the wonderful world of digital slr’s. It’s a long way from my AE-1 or N65, both of which I still have and my boys love to use. Its taken me a bit to be convinced that digital can still have the depth that film does (still not 100%) but with the cost of developing and storing everything I broke down. I am loving my hobby all over again. Instant gratification is great, seeing that great picture right away is pretty cool, I have to admit. I have the amazing opportunity and luck to actually make my passion my job. My husband works as a supervisor at BP and I am extremely lucky for this. It has allowed me to set my own hours in my work and to be as busy or as slow as our schedule allows. I was a mortgage originator for 6 yrs and in banking of some sort for 11. I have always wanted to take the jump and make this my "real" job, and finally took the leap. To be cliche', I have not looked back! I am learning and practicing as much as possible through classes and workshops. I love to take pictures at all types of events, wedding, birthday parties, dances, family gatherings, you name it. I love seeing the story, feeling and emotion frozen in a photograph. If I had to choose my favorite thing to photograph I would have to say seniors and sports wins hands down. It's wonderful to have a passion and career that involves my family. My husband likes it, well because he loves sports. He is almost entirely to blame for my love of them. I figured, after having 2 boys, if you can't beat them join them! My kids love it because they like to see and share photos of themselves, their teams and friends. Please comment on anything, email me with advise, suggestions, anything that will help. One thing I love about sports photography is that no matter what there is always going to be a new angle, new style of picture and someone better then me or has a different take or style on what makes a great picture. There is always another level to get to and It will never be boring. Your purchases and downloads support youth programs and sports. A portion of the proceeds from the youth galleries will be donated to the programs they are of.
