About The Artwork “Another way to look at meditation is to view the process of thinking itself as a waterfall, a continual cascading of thought. In cultivating mindfulness we are going beyond or behind our thinking, much the way you might find a vantagepoint in a cave or depression in a rock behind a waterfall. We still see and hear the water, but we are out of the torrent.” ― Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life Original Created:2018 Subjects:Landscape Materials:Canvas Styles:Fine ArtImpressionismRealism Mediums:Acrylic Details & Dimensions Painting:Acrylic on Canvas Original:One-of-a-kind Artwork Size:15 W x 30 H x 1.5 D in Frame:Not Framed Ready to Hang:Not applicable Packaging:Ships in a Box Shipping & Returns Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments. "The Last Pickle" is a painting of a grumpy pickle that will put a smile on your face.
When I was growing up, I'd play the Japanese card game Hanafuda with my grandparents. Mesmerized by the stunning yet simple designs on each card, I memorized each combination: ribbon, maple and deer, geese, moon and sky, boar and butterfly. At the kitchen table we'd play and snack on senbei, and at these moments I felt so happy and loved. I still remember my grandmother's Japanese plates upon which she'd serve me tiny treats and tea. Surrounded deep in my family's culture, I gained an appreciation for everything Japanese. When I see vintage Japanese design, I feel warmly reminded of my grandparents and the love we shared. The gentle simplicity still embraces and inspires me. Via Pinterest, here are 25: Vintage Design and Illustrations inspired by Japan

The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.
The act of touching is intimately connected to the artistic process of Dan Stockholm. This is exemplified in his piece called By Hand, a site-specific installation that features a collection of red clay bricks that each have impressions of his cupped hands.

It’s easy enough to get Art Nouveau and Art Deco confused, probably owing to the fact that they both start with ‘art’. But Art Nouveau and Art Deco are actually two very distinct design movements, with very distinct looks, that appeared around the turn of the 20th century. After perusing this brief disambiguation, you may not be an expert on design history — but you can casually drop these two descriptors into conversations, and your friends are sure to be impressed.
About The Artwork These thermale baths were created to recover the ancient baths in a city in Italy. The grand spa was one of the first in Italy and Europe, encompassing elegance, a plenitude of therapies, water mineralization and it was a beautiful place. The city began to empty with the first bombings of World War II. Miraculously the baths were saved. In the 1970’s, The imminent reopening of the dancehall was stopped by a fire of unknown origin. It broke out in the party room of the Baths. The fire was put out after about six hours. Since then a black veil of neglect and lack of interest covers all of the great palace. Such great ingenuity was used to create this jewel of architectural engineering and such great indifference is why it is in it’s poor state of neglect to this day. About The Artwork The idea for the collection "Giardino del Duca" prints was born one day while listening to David Fray's beautiful performance of a Schubert lieder in Franz Liszt's fabulous piano transcription (Liszt. 12 Lieder von Schubert, S558 / R243: No . 3. "Du bist die Ruh". David Fray) In these moving chords, I could smell the scent of the ancient roses from my dear friend Michele's garden and I saw his magnificent borzoi called Duca moving among the flowering plants with the grace only a sighthound can have…. And here! Liszt gave his interpretation of him to Schubert's songs by creating masterpieces of classical music: he took away the singing, but added his unsurpassed pianism. Why can't I also interpret the beauty of Michele's Garden using what I know how to do: photograph dogs? Indeed, a dog, THE DOG: Duke. Just as Liszt during his life transcribed about 50 of Schubert's songs, so too Michele and I begin to interpret the beauty of Duke and his Garden. I don't know if we'll get to 50 photographic portraits too, but in the meantime, here are the first ones. Of course, the "soundtrack" cannot be missing, so this time I have associated with each photograph the lieder transcribed by Liszt in my favorite performances. You can find the Playlist in my Spotify account. It is called the "Garden of the Duke". Good vision and listening! Koshiro Onchi (1891-1955) Japanese printmaker, poet, publicist, book designer. Man of many talents. Founding father of Sosaku Hanga* today, as promised in before last posting, I'll try to show an overview of the many talents of this Japanese printmaker with the most relevant text borrowed from Floating World Gallery* (see end of posting). Born in Tokyo 1891, graduated in 1909 from the middle school for German studies in Tokyo and after failing examination to enter Daiichi Kotogakko (First High School), studied oil painting at Aoibashi branch of school of Hakubakai. Onchi entered Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1910, studying first oil painting and then sculpture. In 1911 he withdrew from the school and obtained a job as a book designer. In 1912 he was readmitted to Tokyo School of Fine Arts. In October 1913 he began planning the print and poetry magazine Tsukubae, created numerous abstract prints and directed publication of 7 issues 1914-1915. Onchi contributed cover designs, poems, and moku-hanga, in 1917 Onchi published his first collection of prints, Happiness (Kofuku). In 1919 he participated in the first Nihon Sosaku-Hanga Kyokai exhibition and in 1921 began publication of the general art magazine Naizai with Otsuki Kenji and Fujimori Shizuo. Over the years Onchi was also active in producing and promoting other poetry and print magazines to which he contributed poems, prints, graphic design, and articles promoting the idea that printmaking is a legitimate expressive and creative medium, not merely a means of reproduction. By 1927 Onchi had established a reputation as a book designer. In 1928, in the wake of Lindbergh’s trans-atlantic flight, was engaged by a newspaper company to go up in a plane and record his impressions of flight. The resulting book: Sensations of Flight (Hiko kanno). The coffee house and the dance room He personally designed over 1,000 books for publishers creating suitable letters for the cover of each one and published several books of his own poems or prose with illustrations. "In the theatre". In 1949 he received the first prize offered in Japan for book design. In the midst of his busy professional career in 1938 he contributed to One Hundred Views of New Japan (Shin Nihon hyakkei). A major force in the Sosaku-Hanga* movement and the leading abstract print artist of his time in Japan. Sometimes used the signature ONZI on early prints. *Susaku Hanga, the movement in Japanese printmaking re-introducing "draw it yourself, cut and print it yourself" away from the collaborative printmaking of Ukiyo-E or "floating world" printmaking, where professional cutters and printmakers executed the design in a combined effort. The movement started with Kanae Yamamoto's (1887-1946) Fisherman of 1904, shown in the Blog here*. For a detailed biography read here* and also: Merritt, Helen and Nanako Yamada. "Flayed Human Head (Table 12)," by Govard Bidloo and Gerard de Laireese (1685) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 6.5" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 8.69" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 10.5" x 17") • 20" x 30" (Image: 16" x 25.88") • 24" x 36" (Image: 19" x 30.75") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- "Anatomia humani corporis" was a landmark anatomical atlas published in 1685 by the Dutch anatomist Govard Bidloo. Among its innovations were microscopic descriptions of human hair and skin, including the papillary ridges on the fingertips, which became the basis for modern forensic fingerprinting. It is widely recognized for the artistic sophistication of its 107 plates, designed by Gerard de Lairesse. According to Christie's, Lairesse's designs represented "a total departure from the idealistic tradition inaugurated by Vesalian woodcuts." He "displayed his figures with everyday realism and sensuality, contrasting the raw dissected parts of the body with the full, soft surfaces of undissected flesh surrounding them; placing flayed, bound figures in ordinary nightclothes or bedding; setting objects such as a book, a jar, a crawling fly in the same space as a dissected limb or torso. He thus brought the qualities of Dutch still-life painting into anatomical illustration, and gave a new, darker expression to the significance of dissection." The large and expensive atlas having not achieved great commercial success, Bidloo's publisher sold 300 copies—or perhaps the original plates themselves—to the English anatomist William Cowper, who plagiarized them for his own work, "The anatomy of humane bodies" (1698). A vitriolic public exchange ensued, with numerous pamphlets published in each anatomist's defense. ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements.
