B decided forever ago that she wanted a princess party this year, so that's what we did! Most of B's friends she's made down here are boys, so I quickly realized it had to be a princess and prince party. I think both princesses and princes had a good time, so I count it a success! Now I rest up for next year! I started painting my dining room the day before Brennan's party, as you can see, I didn't quite finish in time... the princesses hard at work making wands... the princes kept busy painting swords... and they colored princesses... this pinata didn't last long, kind of a bummer...oh well, the kids still got the candy and that's what matters right? I love how some of the princes dressed up as princesses...hehe... Until next year! xo

The Standard hotel London review | A punchy new hangout bringing a cool vibe to the edgier side of King’s Cross
This past Saturday we had Zachary's birthday bash. It was supposed to be at our local park, just like last year, and was rained out, just like last year. Z man had a nerf gun based party. So of course the colors were nerf colors of yellow and orange. I did the birthday boy's fav cupcake, chocolate on chocolate. The space we used is our church building fellowship hall and gym. Because of last year's rain out and that I got luck that the gym was empty last minute, this year I reserved it ahead of time for just in case. Food was simple. Z requested hotdogs. I added some fresh veggies, fruit, salsa and chips and cheese balls (Target had this ginormous container of them.) I made each boy a nerf dart pouch belt (tutorial here) and had youth sized safety glasses for them as well. Favors were these yellow water bottles from Target and I wrote their names with an orange Sharpie. And a small bag of candy. Z is a little embarrassed with the loud birthday song singing. These were our invitations. I used scrap book and card stock papers from Hobby Lobby. I used a shorp pencil to stab holes in the nines from the back to look like they were shot. Everyone seemed to have a blast. I got a lot of 5 used guns off eBay to have extras on hand in case someone didn't have one to bring. And I bought a bunch of used darts off eBay as well. I stuffed each pouch with 10 and let them take them home too. I did try to have some organized games. I made targets out of cereal boxes and we did a relay race with them, but the boys got impatient and frustrated with it and just wanted to go back to running amuck shooting each other. I never even bothered to set up the little coke cans that I saved to shoot. And there was football playing too. It was a yucky rainy day and the boys all came bursting with energy!! Oh and some dads even donned the belts and glasses and ran around playing with them. I don't think the male species ever grows out of this type of play. ;) I just love having boys! There is never a dull moment!

Today, Jaina's party is being featured on Hostess with the Mostess! They've graciously agreed to feature it in one of their weekly Party of Five posts. Pretty psyched about this! It's always nice to be recognized for your hard work. Click here to check it out! I know it's been a while (over a month, whew!), but let's check out these party details. The main decor inspiration came from all of Mom and Mimi’s vintage linens. These set that folksy tone I was after. I also used vintage cake stands for the desserts and these cute, old children’s chairs I have to set the drink dispensers on. I used lots of ribbon and ric-rac; from the drink tags around the jars to the ribbon tassel bunting I created for the pavilion and Jaina’s highchair. The cupcake toppers, favor bags, and invitations were made with kraft paper, rubber stamps, and black embossing powder. I also made matryoshka doll banners using black and white printouts of Jaina’s face and patterned paper. I got the idea from this adorable face banner on Pinterest. (My friend, Holly, from Curious Sprinkles, also made one way back for her son's first birthday. Super handsome.) I used several sets of matryoshka dolls as decoration. The boys especially liked the set of sailors and pirates. Jaina’s special present this year was a stuffed doll that I made. She was the star of the dessert table! Everyone loved the painted matryoshka cut-outs. And the kiddos had fun hunting for these adorable matryoshka eggs. There is no one photo that can adequately sum up how hilarious it is to try to get seven children five-and-under, holding bubbles, to pose for a picture, so here's a little montage. I should make a flip book of these. The boys all got "Russian hats" (newsboy caps from Hobby Lobby), and the girls got babushkas (plain bandanas). I also found bubbles at the Dollar Store that looked an awful lot like nesting dolls. The grown-ups got Russian Tea Cakes. I put them in cellophane bags and stapled cute paper to the top. Totally my go-to wrapping choice from now on. And you wanna know the coolest thing about this party? Not counting the items that I'll be using over and over for years to come (like the drink dispensers and jars), the decor and favors for this party only cost me $35. I'm not kidding. I used so much of what I already have that I only needed a few special items to bring it all together. Check out more of the decor and Jaina's cute matryoshka outfit! And check out my feature on Hostess with the Mostess! Woohoo!
