One of the world's cherished concert venues, where audience and performers alike praise the acoustics and say the spirit of musicians past seems to seep through the walls, the "Large Hall" in Budapest has been painstakingly restored during a four-year closure to its 20th-century late Art Nouveau style. The building has a rich history: teachers at the Academy since its first opening in 1907 have included Hungarian classical music composers Béla Bartóó, Zoltán Kodály, Ernő von Dohnányi, and György Kurtág. The reconstruction of the 1907 hall, where such greats as pianist Sviatoslav Richter, Géza Andai, Annie Fischer, Zoltán Kocsis, András Schiff, Dezső Ránki, violinist Yehudi Menuhin, Jasha Heifetz, David Oistrakh, celloist Pablo Casals, Mikhail Rostropovich, Miklós Perényi and conductor Arturo Toscanini, Otto Klemperer, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Antal Doráti, György Solti, Claudio Abbau, György Ligeti performed, is distinguished by ebony-hued wood panelling laced with white geometric decoration. It replaces a drab brown coating dating from 1960. The Art Nouveau building that Hungarians just call by its household name Zeneakadémia was restored to its old splendor with stained glass windows made by Miksa Róth, iridescent Zsolnay tiles, crystal-and-brass chandeliers, glittering golden mosaics, and colorful murals made by great secessionist artist, Körösfői-Kriesch Aladár. The renovators reinstated two obelisks at the corners of the building outside that were removed in the 1920s because of their Free Masonry symbolism. The Grand Music Hall, famed for its unique acoustics, carries decorative elements from Greek mythology. The renovation project, which included construction or modernization of several facilities of the Academy, which also serves as a university, cost 44.8 million euros ($61.4 million), 90% of which was financed by the European Union. A new building a few blocks away with some 50 rooms dedicated to the tuition of the university’s 250 students carries the name of Mr. György Ligeti, who is considered one of the most important avant-garde composers of the 20th century. The performance venues have been expanded to include a chamber hall, where the first opera to be staged will be Mozart’s Magic Flute in December. The new chamber hall is named after György Solti (Sir George Solti), who fled Hungary in 1938 due to anti-Semitic laws. Jazz and folk music will also be part of the repertoire as befits the tuition offered by the Academy in these genres. In the 2013/2014 season, Brad Mehldau and Chick Corea will give solo piano concerts and guitar player Ferenc Snétberger will also play here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Liszt_Academy_of_Music hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liszt_Ferenc_Zenem%C5%B1v%C3%A9szet... A komplex fejlesztési programról 2008 októberében írtak alá támogatási szerződést.

Size of artwork … 20 x 16 x 1.75 inches Title … "Orbit" During the pandemic, I started noticing the quality of sunlight on my windowsills. I grappled with whether my subject was the houseplants being lit or the light itself. I obeyed to the urge to tape sheets of Bristol to my studio floor. I worked with long-handled brushes to keep my marks loose, and I used Flashe (vinyl) paint for the first time. While these “Light Year” paintings are distinct from my landscapes, they carry forward my interest in the intersection of natural and man-made forms and the play of light and shadow. This is an original piece of artwork, not a reproduction. It is one-of-a-kind. I made it with Flashe paint on paper. The paper is mounted on a cradled wood panel (1.75 inches deep) with acrylic gel medium and trimmed. The painting is signed on the front and signed & dated on the back. © Barb Mowery 2021. UNFRAMED. Warf Street Portland, Maine I'm tasking myself in 2011 to expose at least one roll of film per month. I'll scan and post one photograph (or more...), good, bad or indifferent, as part of my process. This is my first image in my project. Roll 1 development notes: I developed my Kodak 35mm Tri-X film in D-76, mixed at a 1:1 ratio, for 10 minutes at 68° F. The development tank was gently agitated in a figure eight motion for the first 30 seconds, and then agitated for five seconds at 30 second intervals. I then immediately filled the tank with water (68° F) to stop development. Next, I drained the tank and filled it with fixer and processed as with the developer (outlined above) for five minutes. I washed the film once more with water for one minute, drained, and added fixer remover. This was gently agitated for two minutes. ...washed the film again with water for five minutes and removed it from the reel. Lastly, I ran the film through some "photo flo" to limit water from spotting the negatives while drying. ...hung to dry. Flickr Explore - January 10, 2011
