Welcome to the July Creation Station Blog Hop. We've got your back this month! The team is making handcrafted backgrounds to inspire your own creative spirit. Be sure to click on the next button at the end of each post to see every design team member's background creations. Making my own backgrounds is something I love to do. I've shown many different background techniques on past Creation Station blog hops, so I wanted to try something new (at least new to me!). This one is a twist on a watercolor background technique. I love watercolor backgrounds because they always turn out differently. I did a couple of practice runs just to see how the ink colors worked together and then I went for it! The backgrounds each started with stamping the leaf and script images from the Very Versailles stamp set in VersaMark ink onto watercolor paper and embossing them with White Stampin' Emboss Powder. To add the color, I first brushed water over the watercolor paper with my Aqua Painter. Next, I used my ink pads to place ink on my Clear Block F. I spritzed the ink on the clear block, dipped a piece of Window Sheet into the puddled ink, and pressed the inked up window sheet into the embossed watercolor paper. I kept the ink puddles separate and cleaned off my window sheet when I switched colors. I used my Aqua Painter to move the color around a bit as needed and a paper towel to remove excess water. Once the paper was dry, I added splatters to the background. For the background on this card I used Pool Party, Old Olive and a bit of Daffodil Delight inks. I created a frame using two sizes of dies from the Stitched Nested Labels dies and Old Olive card stock. The bird and flowers image was fussy cut from a pattern in the Bird Ballad designer series paper pack. "Hello" is from the Free As A Bird stamp set and was punched out with the Classic Label Punch. The watercolor paper is layered on Old Olive card stock and the card base is Whisper White Thick card stock. I added a few Basic Pearls to finish the card. Before creating the background on this card, I made a mask using one of the Stitched Nested Label Dies and copy paper. I used Washi tape to adhere the mask to the watercolor paper and then stamped the images. I carefully removed the mask before embossing, then replaced it and sealed all the edges around the inside of the mask with Washi tape before I started adding the ink. I did not want the ink to travel outside the footprint of the mask. I also added the splatters before removing the mask. I used Seaside Spray and Old Olive inks on the background. The bird image from Free As A Bird stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso ink and then colored with Stampin' Blends: Seaside Spray combo, Petal Pink combo, Soft Suede combo, Old Olive combo, Daffodil Delight light, and the Color Lifter. The greeting is also from the Free As A Bird stamp set. I fussy cut both the bird image and the greeting piece. The watercolor piece is layered on Seaside Spray card stock and then adhered to a Whisper White Thick card stock base. I finished the card with a Seaside Spray faceted dot and a few Basic Pearls. I hope you are inspired to try this fun background technique on your projects. Now it is time to head on over to Dena's blog, The Creativity Cave. I can't wait to see what she has for us today. To Dena's Blog . . . Thanks for stopping by today!--Sara Nell
Hello, crafty friends. I hope you are enjoying the Memorial Day weekend! Yes, it is fun to have a 3 day weekend, but let us also remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and include them in a prayer this weekend. Today, I am sharing a card featuring the Free as a Bird stamp set and the May Paper Pumpkin kit called Hugs from Shelli. Let me first start by saying that I was so excited to see how well this kit coordinates with the Free as a Bird stamp set! I am totally happy that Stampin' UP! did this, and hope they continue to do this coordination with other stamp sets in the future. Thank you, Shelli, for helping in the design of such a beautiful Paper Pumpkin kit! Yes, I did some fussy cutting, but with all the stamp sets that have matching dies, it was actually fun and relaxing to cut out the images for a change. :) This is another fun set that is easy to color. The new Annual catalogue is finally here and finally can display some of the wonderful stamps and DSP as well as ribbons and embellishments. The Free As A Bird stamp set with its coordinating DSP is one of these gorgeous bundles and I used them to make this Corner Pop Up card. I have not made this particular fun fold before, but I found several tutorials on You Tube to help me, two of which I found the most helpful here and here Below is the finished card. Opened up, this is what the card looks like. You can see the score lines clearly. Close up of Left Corner. The birds are fussy cut from the DSP and mounted on a 1 3/4" Whisper White circle. Close up of Right Corner Close up of bird and flowers on easel. The card can be folded up for mailing, but an envelope will have to be custom made for it. Here's what I used: Thick Whisper White card stock 8 1/4 by 8 1/4" Scored at 4 1/8" turned and scored at 4 1/8" again. Cut lower score line to center. Burnish all score lines. Blushing Bride card stock 1 piece 3 7/8 by 3 7/8" cut into 2 triangles DSP - Bird Ballad DSP 1 piece 3 3/4 by 3 3/4" cut into 2 triangles - add this to Blushing Bride card stock triangles and adhere to two upper corners. Blushing Bride card stock 1 piece 3 7/8 by 3 7/8" DSP - Bird Ballad DSP 1 piece 3 3/4 by 3 3/4" Whisper White 1 piece 3 1/2 by 3 1/2" - adhere this to DSP and to Blushing Bride and adhere to bottom piece. 3 birds fussy cut from DSP 3 1 3/4" Whisper White circles. Adhere birds to circles and add to upper triangles Two stitched rectangle pieces formed into an easel Image of bird , 3 flowers and a leaf sprig stamped on Whisper White , coloured with Stampin' Blends, and die cut with Bird Ballad dies. Arrange on Easel. Adhere small rhinestones in center of flowers. Adhere easel to Whisper White base Stamp sentiment on smaller rectangle die and adhere to easel. Add Easel to lower card. Add Bird Ballad trinket above sentiment Tie 5/8" organza ribbon into a bow and adhere below easel. Stamp: Free as a Bird Inks: Black Memento, Stampin Blends (Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, Old Olive) Papers: Thick Whisper White, Bird Ballad DSP, Blushing Bride, Whisper White Accessories: 1 3/4" circle punch, Bird Ballad trinkets, Stitched Nested Dies

What does a shaking, watercoloring, sequins, AND fussy cutting all have to do with my post today?! Why...those are some of my favorite things AND just happen to all be elements of a shaker card I made! It is using the Free As A Bird Stamp Set. I am so excited to share this card with you!!! Colors: Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, Pool Party, Basic Black, Whisper White, Gold Inks: Flirty Flamingo, Granny Apple Green, Pool Party, VersaMark Cardstock/Papers: Thick Whisper White, Shimmery White, Basic Black, Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper Stamps: Free As A Bird Tools: Stitched Rectangle Dies, Aqua Painter Accessories: Baker's Twine, Iridescent Sequin Assortment, Gray Granite 1/2" Textured Weave Ribbon, White Stampin' Emboss Powder, Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder Those birds make me smile! Do they have that affect on you?! Maybe you need to see them closer... I stamped all of the images onto Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper in VersaMark ink, and embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. Then I just used ink and an Aqua Painter to color them in! I did some of the extra leaves and flower images so I could build up that main bird focal point. I mean seriously... There is even a little ribbon/twine touch at the top... I do love that shake though! I hope you enjoy! Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything! I promised I'd be making more cards with our gorgeous DSP and here you have my first card using the brand new products from the 2019-2020 annual catalogue. You won't have to wait long to see more either! I am a complete convert to how beautiful cards are when they draw on the paper in this way, and so effortless to make up, it's a dream. This card uses the Bird Ballard Designer Series Paper as well as the Free as a Bird stamp set. I stamped off the bird and coloured him in using Blends which helped me get that shading effect. The sentiment I stamped on a strip of Whisper White and then cut a banner end with my Snips. Fussy cut the bird, stick him to the end of the banner, and pop the whole lot up using dimensionals. HOW EASY IS THAT? ESAD 2019-2020 Blog Hop Annual Catalogue Sneak Peek Stampin Up, Bird Ballad Suite, Free as a Bird, Watercolouring with ink
Pretty 5" x 7" stitched notebook decorated using Perennial Essence DSP, the Free As A Bird Stamp Set and Stitched Nested Label Dies from Stampin' Up!
I wanted to create a card that can be used for many occasions for my newsletter this week. I am in need of a card to send out for gifts that I received during the holiday season. I think this card will work perfectly. The image is from the Free as a Bird stamp set. I stamped the image on Shimmery White card stock with Stazon Ink and water colored the image using a Water Painter. If you haven't tried water coloring, it is so easy and fun with our Water Painters. Here is a closer look.
Over the past couple of days, I've covered a lot of information on my blog. On Monday, I shared Stampin' Up!'s retiring list, along with some suggestions for how you can grab up some of these amazing products before they are gone (you can see that post here). Yesterday, I provided
What can I say? It was love at first sight of this new stamp set from the Stampin' Up! 2019-2020 catalogue. My favourite technique is water colouring stamped images and the images in the Free As A Bird Bundle are perfect. I could see in my head an image of these lovely birds on fabric, so instantly remembered the fabulous Subtle Embossing Folder. The first effort was on water colour paper, and although I love to work with this type of paper it did not give me the effect of fabric that I was looking for. The Subtle Embossing folder was a little too subtle when combined with the texture of the w/c paper. It was so easy to colour this image using an Aqua Painter and classic ink from the lids of the Stampin' Up! ink pad. I wanted something earthy as my finished product, so decided to try stamping on Crumb Cake card stock. Painting on this is a little more difficult but I'm happy with the effects achieved using Rococco Rose, Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso inks. And look at that texture! To assist the paper a little, I spritzed alcohol on the back of the image prior to running it through the Big Shot with the Subtle Embossing folder. It gave me exactly the effect I was looking for. To finish the card I used the Stitched Rectangle Framelits to cut out the image, a mat and the greeting. I also embossed some Very Vanilla card, crinkled the edges and added some Burlap ribbon and lace. It is all matted onto a Very Vanilla card base. The new catalogue is really wonderful with so many products to suit all levels of crafter. Let me know if you live in Australia, and would like a copy. Until Next Time Happy Crafting

I think this is my first time playing along with the TGIF Challenges. I really like this sketch. I started with the DSP called Bird Ballad. I layered it on the Daffodil Delight base and added the other design of paper banner I punched with the Triple Banner punch. I cut the stitched label die in white and stamped the sentiment from Free As A Bird in Memento Tuxedo Black. I stamped the flowers and the bird in Memento on white and colored with my Stampin Blends. I punched the leaf with the Leaf punch in Old Olive paper. I hand snipped the flowers and birds. I finished it off with the pearls. Sweet card and so pretty thanks to the paper. ESAD 2019-2020 Blog Hop Annual Catalogue Sneak Peek Stampin Up, Bird Ballad Suite, Free as a Bird, Watercolouring with ink
From legendary photographer Herman Leonard, a rare glimpse of the underbelly of a cultural revolution through stunning, luminous never-before-seen images of jazz icons.
This card was "quick & easy" with the Free As A Bird Stamp Set. I have birds on my mind, because I'll be receiving the new bird stamp set with dies from the 2020-2021 Annual
Helloooo, stampers! Boy, have I got something FUN to share with you today....it's a sneak peek at my new favorite stamp set, called Free As A Bird, that's coming in the 2019-20 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog. Yesterday I shared one of the images on a guy card, and today I'm sharing another. This is one of the cards we are making in today's Second Saturday Stampers stamp club. Yeah, I know this is the third Saturday, but I was in Charlotte last Saturday for OnStage, so we rescheduled. Anyhow, these sweet birdies on a branch are just a delight to color, so quick and easy with the Stampin' Blends! The Stitched Nested Labels die set that is part of the bundle didn't have any flower dies, so the flowers were fussy-cut. But that was simple to do....not too much detail, LOL. I wanted to use something old and something new on this project, so the Gingham Gala DSP and Coastal Cabana/Granny Apple Green ribbon were just right with the color of the birds. Well, I have to cut this short today. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

One of the new product suites that I was able to pre-order as a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator is the Bird Ballad Suite. This is a gorgeous suite including stamps, paper, dies and embellishments …
Hello and welcome, Tonight, is the latest Colour INKspiration Challenge #74 and this photo was captured by Simone Bartrum a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator who was on holidays on the stunning island of Mykonos last year. It was one of her favourite places while traveling on the 2019 Greek Isles Incentive Trip. The colours for the challenge are Night of Navy, Whisper White, Basic Grey and Mango Melody. You can also add Basic Black, Very Vanilla and metallics. The challenge runs for almost 2 weeks and will end at 7pm (AEST) on 6th April 2020. I hope you’ll enter into the Colour INKspiration Challenge we would love to see your creation. The card I’ve created is using the Free As A Bird Bundle and Forever Blossoms Stamp Set. I haven’t used the Free As A Bird Stamp Set for awhile so it was nice to get it out and do a little water colouring. I started with the Night of Navy card base, added a panel of Night of Navy Cardstock and stamped in Night of Navy Ink using the larger flower branch stamp from the Forever Blossoms Stamp Set. I used a Sponge Dauber with Night of Navy Ink and sponged around the edges of the Cardstock. I used the second largest die from the Stitched So Sweety Dies and die cut out the Whisper White Cardstock. Using the Sponge Dauber, I lightly sponge Night of Navy Ink onto the Whisper White Cardstock. I’ve stamped the bird, flowers and leaves images in Stazon Ink onto Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. Using the colours from the challenge, I’ve water coloured the images in and fussy cut them out. I love the sentiment from the Free As A Bird Stamp Set and I think it’s very appropriate with what’s going on in the world at the moment. We all need lots of hope, virtual hugs and our health to see us through. Make sure you visit our Facebook group to enter the competition, we would love to see how you would use this latest colour challenge.
