I love shuttle tatting. I actually prefer shuttle tatting to needle tatting. Shuttle tatting is a little harder than tatting with a needle. Since I've already done a needle tatting post I decided to do a post about shuttle tatting for beginners. Tatting is a beautiful old-fashioned art and it has been around for centuries.

I just love the look of tatting but I am not as ambidextrous as I would like to be so I am practicing with Maria Papia and needle tatting on youtube. I just purchased a shuttle and when I get home I am going to try to make something (anything). I love the colors. I wonder if I could make these? Of course my shuttle is as gorgeous as these. It's plastic and I paid $5.99 for it at Joanne Fabrics. WOW if I ever master it I am going to try to make this as a pendant for a necklace for Christmas. I hope that I inspired you to try something new and create. All of these pictures and instructions can be found on my Pinterest page. Until we meet again, Claudia

First up: if you don’t know what fractals are (or if you do, for that matter) don’t be scared! It’s a pretentious name for a pretty easy concept. Difficulty: I will assume comfort…
There is so much to be said for the art of taking some thread and making something pretty with it. The fact is, though many girls and women shy away from such art as they feel it is old fashioned, the fact is that such things are always in fashion and such skills are always to be valued. Just look at vintage crochet patterns and how pretty they are even today and you will know what we are talking about. In fact we can go back even a bit further and talk about the types of fabrics that are remarkable to know how much art lies in the simple art of garment making and designing.

Tatting the chain around the other side of the bead, we come to the join. I opted to use the "Alligator Join". The core thread goes under the work, the auxiliary thread goes on top, (or reverse order if it looks better to you) and the tatting continues. This photo shows the first half of of a double stitch just after the join. It is still loose in the photo to help you see it, but it needs to be pulled up tight. Tatting continues around the beads. This concludes my tutorial on a string of beaded mock rings. Have fun!
