We hope you are having a fabulous day. We are so excited to share this gorgeous Gainesville home with all of you today. Take a peek!
John Grundy Garrett's signature upstairs balcony porch with the turned center post and wrap-around turned spindle frieze is clearly displayed here. His own modest frame home also had this signature upstairs balcony porch. Garrett's love for stained glass windows is evident here as well. Although more sophisticated contemporary architects might have dismissed Garrett's house designs as naively "folkish" or overly-ornate (for the 1890's) their abundance of lavish details continues to charm today's Victorian architectural admirers. Garrett also designed at least one Church still standing in Gainesville which is full of Victorian "eye-candy" as well. Local historical accounts credit J.G. Garrett with designing and building over 200 homes in Gainesville and nearby areas but just a small fraction remain standing today. His talents make Gainesville's collection of brick Victorians one of the most interesting in Texas and combined with other Victorian jewels, make Gainesville well worth a day trip visit from Dallas or Fort Worth northward on I-35. Gainesville is but a short distance south of the Oklahoma border just off I-35.

While Gainesville, Texas has a fair number of grand Victorian mansions in brick and stone built by local master builder-architect John Grundy Garrett, the majority of the town's residents resided in far more modest dwellings typified by this very intact and unaltered example. Although the original color scheme likely had the earth tones popular in the late 1880's and the exterior windows probably had wood shutters, this is a remarkably well preserved example.
