Thousands of people are planning to rally in Anacortes this weekend to protest the oil flowing from two refineries in the area. But some worry that the more than 2,000 people expected at March Point, on land and in kayaks, also could interfere with the region’s largest colony of great blue herons.

animalworld: “GREAT BLUE HERON Pair Nesting ”
A photo of a pair of nesting great blue herons taken by me here in Southwest Florida for your favorite bird lover. This would be lovely in a bedroom, nursery, living room, office, or bathroom featuring beach decor or coastal decor. Please select the size and print medium you desire from the drop down menu. If you select PHOTO PAPER - You will receive a photo print professionally printed upon request on heirloom grade photo paper. I will choose the paper type based on the individual qualities of each image - please send me a message to let me know if you have a specific preference (lustre or glossy). If you select CANVAS - You will receive a gallery wrapped canvas ready to hang with wire on the back. The 1.5" edges will be beautifully blurred with colors corresponding to the image, meaning that my image will not wrap around the edges but will appear entirely on the front of the canvas. If you select METAL - You will receive a high gloss metal print featuring vibrant detail, sharp square corners, and a metal float hanger on the back that will float the print a half inch off of the wall. I can also have my work matted and framed or printed on fine art paper (with or without a mat and frame), or acrylic - please contact me for pricing. My watermark will NOT appear on the print you receive. Please note that color varies between different computer monitors, and so the print you receive may not look exactly as it did on your computer screen. Please feel free to convo me via Etsy with any questions, and click the tab above for information regarding shipping and policies. Little Blue Heron The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is a small heron. It breeds in the Gulf States of the US, through Central America and the Caribbean south to Peru and Uruguay. It is a resident breeder in most of its range, but some northern breeders migrate to the Southeastern US or beyond in winter. There is post-breeding dispersal to well north of the nesting range, as far as the Canada–US border. 4 of 6 Great Egret (Ardea alba) nest with three chicks at the Morro Bay Heron Rookery at Fairbanks Point just north of Windy Cove and the Museum of Natural History, Morro Bay, CA 09 June 2009. Photo by Michael "Mike" L. Baird, mike [at} mikebaird d o t com, flickr.bairdphotos.com; Canon 1D Mark III, Canon 600mm f/4 IS, 2X TE, on sturdy tripod, remote shutter. Tech note: Normally, you'd expect to see me underexpose (-1/3 EV to -1 EV) shots of white birds like this to prevent blowout of the whites. Here however, you see an Exposure Bias of +2/3 EV, which may seem counter-intuitive, until you observe that the exposure metering mode used here was "spot" instead of my usual "evaluative." Based on Art Morris' recommendation, until today I had actually disabled all metering modes in my 1D Mark III in C,Fn 1-10, except for evaluative, with the theory that controlling a minimum number of variables is optimal in the field.
