The other day I was talking with a friend (more fantasizing really) about which interior designer would we hire to decorate our homes. None of us had a clear name in mind but I must say that after …
Modern conveniences remain tastefully hidden among the artifacts in a magnificent Southeast Queen Anne Victorian.
Misty hills. Lonely forest roads. Plenty of vines, moss, and unkempt trees. And the cherry on top—a gorgeous abandoned building that radiates eeriness and grandeur in equal measure. That’s our dream home right there. Especially if the place looks haunted.

Have you ever noticed how various objects and constructions look as if they’ve got faces – they are smiling, being angry or amazed. However, what some may call acuteness to detail is usually attributed to a psychological phenomenon, called pareidolia – that’s when a person perceives a random stimulus as something significant, for e.g., sees faces on clouds or buildings.
Road Trip: West Coast Tour, Spring Vacation 2012. The second stop of our road trip was in Eureka, CA. We stayed at a beautiful/luxurious B & B in the historic district. Surrounding us were many historic Victorian homes. This is the Carson Mansion. From Wikipedia: "The Carson Mansion is a large Victorian house located in Old Town, Eureka, California. Regarded as one of the highest executions of American Queen Anne Style architecture, the home is considered the most grand Victorian home in America. It is one of the most written about and photographed Victorian houses in California, and perhaps, in the United States. Originally the home of one of Northern California's first major lumber barons, it has housed the Ingomar Club, a private members only club, since 1950. Though the front and south-side elevations can be easily viewed from the public street and sidewalk, the home and grounds are never open to the general public." It really is a spectacular building! Cost to build: $80k in 1884 and took 4 years to complete. I wonder how much that would be in today's costs?! The answer is $1,916,100.
Having bookshelves in your home keeps your space organized and creates a relaxed and extremely cozy atmosphere, which is perfect for book enthusiasts.
A young couple converts a 31-foot, 1989 Chevy B6P bus that was formerly a prison transport vehicle into a charming tiny home.
I glimpsed this towered Victorian house from nearby Rt 6 and made my way around the block to check it out. I was able to track down the owner who let me take some pictures and gave me a little history. It was purchased by Victor and Minnie Orwig in 1903 and was occupied until the mid Nineties. The original slate roof is beginning to fail, endangering the upstairs ceilings. An unusual farmhouse for this turn of the century Ohio farming community. The detailing and woodwork on this house were a little different from anything I have ever seen and looked like they might have been an individual's interpretation of popular motifs.

A sincere dream. Since stumbling on the concept of an earth ship in late 2012, I have wanted to help create an autonomous vista from the ground up – earlier this year I had that opportunity.

Do you ever dream of being a nomad? I think it’s something that crosses all of our minds at one point or another. Architect: James Hubbell Location: Santa Ysabel, CA James Hubbell has been building and adding to his home on a hilltop outside of San Diego, CA for over 30 years. It's clearly inspired by Gaudi (and walking the grounds feels a lot like a mini Park Guell), among other influences. But Hubbell is a master of organic architecture and walking through his estate is a rare treat. It's open to the public every year on Fathers' Day. This compound was almost destroyed in the Cedar Fire of 2003, but has now been almost entirely rebuilt.
