This historic pie has been in our family for many generations and is always served at our get-togethers.—Suzette Pruit, Houston, Texas
This majestic mansion has long been in service as the Wise funeral home. It is by far the grandest Victorian I encountered on our day trip to Northeast Texas. The palatial home share some details with Geo. Barber designed homes but I tend to think the architect was more regional as from Dallas, Austin, or Houston. The late Queen Anne style home features a registered Texas historic landmark plaque. Its unlikely the original colors were white with a black roof but considering its function, the white color scheme makes it look dignified. A number of Victorian mansions on this level once stood in Northeast Texas but this is one of the only survivors. The upkeep on a castle this size required a large staff of servants and groundskeepers originally so that accounts for why so few are still standing. Awesome house!
