CARE TIPS: Stepania Erecta takes LOTS of PATIENCE!!!! They are very slow to sprout... * A mix of well drainage soil * Some pumice or pebbles for the bottom of the pot ( 1/2" high to avoid flooding in a pot. * A Pot with a drainage hole Our soil recipe: Peat moss or Coco peat 3 part Pumice (size 02) 1 part Perlite 1 part River sand 1 But if you can not follow our recipe, you can use Cactus soil which is easy to find in garden shops. Buried 2/3 of the bulb in the soil will help it get faster sprouting as receive more moisture from the soil. The temperature to get sprouting should be not lower than 77F. Average between 77F-86F is the best temperature for first sprouting. For watering, it is up to the temperature in your room. Normally for 77F-86F can do twice a week But if 76F just once a week is enough. Overwatering will be caused by fallen leaves and rot too. In a dry climate, you can mist in the air (above the plant, avoid directly to it) about 2-3 times a week to gain more humidity in the air but not necessary to do every day. Also watering schedule depends on the size of the pot and your environment too. Please note that when watering please do slowly around the bulb and stop when you see the water drop from the drainage hole. For a light, please place it close to the window where received indirect sunlight. If your bulb has a long sprout with very small leaves that means it is not enough light for it. So mostly need to place very closed to the window. In the beginning, we suggest avoiding watering directly on a caudex. It can cause some mold and rotten skin. But when it has leaves and a root system, it is fine to water on it. Just to make sure that it will get dry in 8 hours or a day before water on the skin. Stephania can go dormant over winter and lose some or all of their leaves. If kept in a warm place this won’t necessarily happen but don’t stress if it does. It’s a normal process and they will shoot out new leaves come spring. Please don’t water your bulb if this does happen to avoid overwatering and you can start over in spring. Being rather delicate the leaves can also be sensitive to travel shock, where they can drop leaves or stems as they re-adjust to their new environment There are 3 main keys to getting sprouting - Temperature min 77F to get a sprout - Moisture in the soil, just water it as shown above - Sunlight, needs indirect sunlight to get awake from dormancy.
