Hi! My name is Valp, i'm a comic artist searching for inspiration and sharing work! love astronomy, geek culture, nature, gothic culture, medieval times, and vintage stuffs. forgive my bad english folks! ;-)
Now for something completely different - a walnut house in a planter! The idea came to me when I saw the beautiful hand turned bowls made by Tom Frey. The bowl I've used for this piece is cherrywood, with a natural rim. The house, as always, is made from a real walnut, with acorn caps as roof and awnings. It's supported on oak twigs from our yard, and embellished with bits of dried grapevine. The tiny landscape inludes agate pebbles from the southern shore of Lake Superior, collected for me by friends who were vacationing there. One of the real pleasures of what I do is receiving unexpected gifts of natural bits and pieces from friends and family who have seen the walnut houses and think I might be able to use some interesting pebbles, tiny shells, fragments of bark, driftwood or fungi. I'm so grateful to them! It's helped me to build up quite a collection of wonderful things, which I dip into all the time. The interior has a cozy bed, tables and a comfy chair; a shelf over the door holds books and dishes.
Coordinating your garden with your paint scheme can pump up your home's overall allure.
Eschewing excess space and making the most of every inch, these functional but tiny homes prove that bigger is not always better.

source: scanned image from Victoria April 1995 In observance of Earth Day I am doing an ode to gardening. I fondly remembered the old Victoria magazine's features on gardening and decided to dig them out and see what images I could come up with. I have tore out these features and long since thrown the magazines away. If I knew the the date of the feature I have posted it here as the source, otherwise I don't know the date. source: scanned image from Victoria magazine This was from the magazine and it was also the cover of the magazine. If ever I get to visit England I would love to see a cottage like this. Isn't this rose bush magnificent! source scanned image from Victoria magazine Victoria magazine often took us to England. Here we get a bird's eye view of a spectacular manor house walled garden. source: scanned image Victoria magazine This image is one of the inspirations for my own kitchen garden. Here is a herb garden right out the kitchen door at another manor house. source: scanned image Victoria magazine Always enchanted by a path in a garden. source: image scanned from Victoria magazine Jan. '91 Victoria did many features on white long before I ever remember anyone else showing it. Here they featured an all white garden. source: image scanned from Victoria magazine Jan. '91 The white garden at night becomes a magical place as a moonlit garden. Now, here in my own yard the plants have been spilling over the walk and the flower border with abandon. I just this year have a rose garden. You don't have to spend a lot of money to have roses. I picked these roses up at Walmart last year. I would get a rose every week with the groceries. They only cost around $4 and some change a piece. I have four rose bushes and they have really been beautiful this week. Right out the back door in a shrub a mother robin has taken up residence to raise her young. Not wanting to disturb the nest, I stuck the camera above my head and aimed and caught a peak at the beautiful eggs. Today I opened my computer and typed in my chosen search words of the day: “abandoned greenhouse“. Little did I know how many photographs I was about to scroll through. So many, too many! Why is that? Surely we still all eat greens and enjoy decorating our houses with them. Why have so many of these…

This authentic 130-year-old print was rescued from a disbound volume of The Encyclopaedia Britannica - A Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature - Ninth Edition – 1875-1889 – Edinburgh: Adam & Charles Black. This rare antique AQUEDUCT print is of the REMAINS OF AQUEDUCT OF METZ; AQUEDUCT OF PONT DU GARD NEAR NISMES; AQUEDUCT OF MAINTENON; AQUEDUCT DEL TORRE, SPOLETO; CHIRK AQUEDUCT (ELLESMERE CANAL), and DEE AQUEDUCT (ELLESMERE CANAL). It is Plate IV from Vol. II. It is a single sheet, blank on the reverse, and measures approx. 8.5 x 11 inches (21.5 x 27.5 cm), with clean borders for framing. It is not mounted, matted or framed so you are free to display it how you want. It would look great framed as a set with other Aqueduct, Rivers, Canals and Harbours prints in our range. Considering its age, this 19th Century print is in excellent condition, on well-preserved paper. The beautifully detailed design is still bright, and the paper has a lovely satin feel. There is tonal aging (to be expected from antique prints and only adds to their charm) otherwise it is very clean with no obvious defects to mention. These fascinating, antique prints make unique, original gifts and wonderful additions to your home or office décor. Click the ADD TO CART button, then take a look at our range of maps and prints on offer – you could even start your own exclusive collection! We take great care to make sure our prints reach you in perfect order by enclosing them in protective plastic sleeves and shipping them flat in rigid mailers. If you like a place to nap or read that has a wonderful cozy-cave feeling, the alcove bed is for you. These beds are natural space saving solutions because they usually occupy corners or other "not the most practical" parts of rooms. Alcove beds are a very beautiful and also quite popular type of bed. This is surprising especially since alcove beds can't be bought. They have to be built and custom-made. The thing that separates these beds from your average curtained bed is the fact that they're more fully enclosed, as opposed to standing in the middle of a room. Typically, they have three sides closed in by a wall, with the open side covered with a curtain. I have an alcove bed in my old home and love it....except for the fact that it is hard to make the bed when you are surrounded by three walls. That is the only drawback and I feel obligated to give you all the facts so you can make a good decision. Just make sure that your bed looks great even if it is unmade. You can do this by using beautiful sheets and voluminous layers of beautiful bed dressings. Some are classic, others modern, but they're all great and cozy beds. If you are looking for some inspiration on designing your own alcove bed, take a look at the creative and beautiful ideas in the images below and start creating. digitalgallery.nypl.org In France it became fashionable to place beds in alcoves, The alcoves were usually decorated with lambrequins and side curtains held back with rope cord or rosettes. tumblr.com picasaweb.google.co...
