Packaging has an important role to play: it is the first thing you see and builds anticipation. So making it extra pretty has always be my goal. It also gives me an opportunity to craft something – especially important when your gift is bought. Last year, I gifted all my neighbours some candy. A candy manufacturer had been a client of mine back then and I had tons of it. Too much for me to handle. So I thought it’s a good idea to let others appreciate it. However, I always feel weird gifting something that I already had at home. Is that silly? Let me know in the comments! To make the gift special (and quiet my conscious for gifting something I got for free) I created DIY paper bags that I painted to make them look like gingerbread houses. I’m so smitten with the packaging that it did quiet my mind – also the neighbours were really appreciative and brought me cookies in exchange. The big cookie tasting of 2019 – that’s what that Christmas will be known from now on. I can only recommend to do the same. How to make the paper bags What you need: brown …

I've seen versions of these paper bag stars all over the internet for awhile now. And last weekend, we finally got a chance to make our very own version. Half art project, half craft, these artsy paper bag stars are such a unique way to showcase children's art and decorate your home! Artsy Paper Bag Stars This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support! For my full disclosure policy, click here Aren't they pretty? I definitely think these paper bag stars look just as nice as the paper star lanterns that you can buy. Let's Make some Artsy Paper Bag Stars! Grab 7 paper bags. (We just used brown paper bags but I bet white paper bags would look lovely!) Cut off the bottoms of the bags (the sealed part). Now, it's time to decorate the bags. When you're decorating your bags, be sure to decorate one front side and both sides. (I unfolded the bag so you can see the side portion.) These will be the most visible when you make the star, so you want to make sure to add colors to those portions. Now grab your Sharpies, Crayons, Markers, oil pastels, solid tempera paint, stickers... whatever you want and decorate away! :) My son surprisingly really enjoyed this portion of the activity. He said he liked that he could just "shut off his brain" and draw. Ok. Once your 7 bags are decorated (front and two sides), it's time to tape them together. Grab your double sided tape and tape the bags together by placing double sided tape on both sides of one bag and then sticking another bag on top of it. (I placed my fingers where the tape was in my photo.) Keep repeating this process until your bags are stuck together. Then, hole punch your bags and use a piece of yarn to loosely tie the bags together. (You want it to be loose, so you can "open" up your star.) Then, cut the top corners of your bag off to create a house shape. Now comes the magic part! Pull your paper bags apart and watch a star form! Use double sided tape to attach the first and last bags together. Then, depending on the strength of your double sided tape, you may have to staple the bags together. (Oil pastels made the bags pretty slick, so my double sided tape wasn't as strong.) Then, tie a long piece of yarn to your yarn loop to hang your star up! Note: I found my star to have too many points that looked brown, so I cut off some of the points (back parts of the bags.) This way I revealed the front decorated portions of the bags. Voila! Aren't these fun? They're such a nice way to showcase your child's artwork. We're definitely making some white versions this Christmas for a fun Christmas themed craft. Let's Keep in Contact! Made these flower out of brown paper lunch bags. You could also make it with colored paper if you like. You'll need: --------------- 4-6 brown paper bags. Glue Scissor. Steps: ------- - Draw a petal shape in the brown paper bags. - Cut out the petals. - When you cut out the petals, you will get smaller petals from the sides of the bags, which will just fall off after you cut the petals just like the picture below. So from each bag you get four petals, two big ones from the front and back of the bags and two small ones from the sides of the bags. - You should now have a bunch of big and small petals. - In the above picture, my left pile is the pile of small petals from the sides of the bag. These are already folded in half. Slightly fold the big petals in half too and start gluing it together. - Glue the big petals just like the picture below. - Do the same with the small petals. - So now you have two flowers, one with the big petals and the other one with small petals - Glue the small flower on top of the big flower. - Take small pieces of scrap paper you must have left out from all that cutting and wrap it in a small square piece of paper and glue it to the center of the flower.
