Kermit the Frog sang that “It ain’t easy being green.” How about, “It ain’t easy being a conjoined-twin forced into a humiliating form of circus-slavery,” or “It ain’t easy having no limbs.” Being green is the least of these people’s worries. (In fact it might be nice to be culturally-beloved for a change.) At the turn of the last century, entertainment was a different species than it is today, having not T.V. or radio or action movies; you had to witness a living miracle in order to be fully entertained, and circuses provided that very thing.
The Midwest, also known as the Middle West and the North Central States, is a region in the north-central United States that lies between the Appalachian and the Rocky Mountains. It consists of the states Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. It’s a region rich in leisure, culture, art, and fashion. As everyone knows, rich culture usually means dialects and lifestyles unique to that area. The Midwest is known for some particularly unique slang and turns of phrase. Some of these are so out there, you would have had to have been born and raised there to understand them. Think you can get them all right?
