Shrek Dragon - Youth Theater Production of "Shrek the Musical": This spring's performance for the Young People's Theatre was "Shrek the Musical". Paper Globe: 12-gore Pattern: I need a paper globe for a Death Star hanging lamp I'm contemplating, but could not find any usable patterns out there. Perhaps it's just my lack of Google-fu. In any case, I made a pattern that others might find useful. You can scale it up or down…
So.... where were we? PART 2 of the JetPack project! Ah, yes.... I found some old electrical tape in the basement and used it to embellish my rocket boosters... I also cut the strap off an old messenger bag (that I've been "s'posed to fix"for about 4 years), cut it into two equal lengths, and affixed them to the "back plate" using duct tape. *I decided on duct tape so I could easily remove it and expand the straps if Sammy grows. Chances are he will. (Will the JetPack --or it's appeal-- last that long? Who knows?) I threaded the straps through the slits and taped them to themselves. A also crossed them in front in order to insure it stays on well while playing!! Then came the gluing of the bottles onto the back plate... This was somewhat of a momentary debacle. I tried Hot Glue first. Now, I'd actually tested hot glue on a plastic coke bottle at work the night before, because I thought it would melt. Well, apparently my glue gun is hotter because the bottle at work was fine, but mine warped and started to melt. Cut to: Gorilla Glue. That worked! I also added a bit more electrical tape to hold the two bottles together... ...I DID use the Hot Glue in the mouth of the bottle to attach the flames. I felt confident that the plastic was thick enough there to withstand the heat.... Then I thought, "Oh! What if one of the straps was snapped or velcro'd on so that it was easier to get on and off?! So I tried.... but the hot glue was not good for snaps. Lesson learned. They came off almost instantly. I ended up doing the duct tape method on all four! Just made it all a bit looser so that Sam didn't stress about getting it on and off over his head! (Hot gluing snaps: BAD IDEA) WELL.... ALL WAS ASSEMBLED AND IT WAS TIME TO TRY IT OUT!!! My little Rocketman was very eager and even grabbed a helmet! Safety First! On it went: ...lookin' good! And... BLAST OFF!!!! (The helmet was cramping his style apparently...) ZOOOM! Desolate Planet: Uncharted territory... The inhabitants of this planet must be Yankees Fans! All in all... a successful mission! Now I have to make some matching Adult-Sized ones and one for our 3-month old, so the whole family can fly!!!! BLAST OFF!!!!! ☆ GD*BG

My son Carter is approaching the end of 4th grade & his final project had me more excited then he was. The project requirements were to portray a famous Hoosier as a wax figure at a wax museum. He choose David Wolf, an Indianapolis native that became an astronaut. With that he had to have a costume and props. So of course my DIY imagination started running wild! We had the outfit ironed out, but we still needed a helmet so we decided to make it out of paper mache. It was so simple and cost nothing, because I already had all the materials. So if you are looking for an inexpensive way to make a helmet here are step-by-step instructions. Materials: Balloon (standard size) 1 cup of flour 2 cup of water Newspaper White copy paper Scissors Paint (desired colors) Paint brush Container to hold the balloon (I used a bowl) Bowl to make the paste Step 1: Cut the newspaper & white copy paper into strips. Step2: Make the paste by mixing the 1/2 cup of flour and 1 cup of water. Step 3: Blow up the balloon to desired size. Step 4: Dip the newspaper into the paste. Remove any excess paste and put it on the balloon. Do this until the entire balloon is covered with newspaper. Do not apply anymore than two coats of newspaper. Step 5: Let it dry. I left it overnight but it should only take 4 hours to dry. Step 6: Make another batch of paste by mixing the remaining 1/2 cup of flour and 1 cup of water. Step 7: Repeat step 4 but this time use the white copy paper. Step 8: Let the paper dry for a minimum of 4 hours. As you can see there are some brown marks on the balloon. This is from the paste, but it can be easily covered up using paint. Step 9: Pop the balloon and remove from the shell. You might need to trim the opening to make the helmet sit upright. Step 10: Use paint to decorate the helmet, then you’re done! What do you think? Super easy, huh?! The best part is, it cost zero dollars! Well, that’s it for this tutorial. I hope you liked it. Into next time. Xoxo
