'Love is a technology' I have fallen.... hard and fast for a new source of inspiration. The one and only Miyavi! So this post will be about my personal love affair with music through the tears, oooops I meant years! Freudian slip or typo?! What I saw, who I loved, who inspired me. Not necessarily me here about the decision making......just sayin!!! Debbie Arambula My love affair I was born in 1964. I have loved music quite literally since I was born. Back in the day my parents would put me in the bassinet in the coat room while they danced. They were such great dancers, they won contests! Like this!!! 50'6-60's Music History They even showed me once, danced right in the kitchen just for me! It was wonderful. Can you even imagine the music to which I had been exposed? And then came... Ooooooh ♥ the dresses, the hair styles ♥ Now I have grown some and found myself very intrigued with tutu's and the magnificent art of Ballet. My parents had this album with four photos of a couple dancing together. She was in her tutu and he in his leotard. My sister and brother had fun listening to these two old beauties. Kissin and Huggin with Fred ...as we liked to call it, lol! Wild Thing Then we got a REAL kick out of this one!!! Freeworld Interview 2011 Silent Anger 'The Bird' in Unbroken Unbroken Cast & Crew Concert In closing, I just can not help but love this artist for his tremendous talent and contribution to music. He is completely incredible to me. He has developed his own unique style of playing, after experimenting with many genres throughout his career. He has created his own genre. His guitar is his bass. That is pretty freakin AWESOME! Miyavi never stops evolving. He will come down in history for being a creative genius. As I have tried to show here in this post, he likes to remain trendsetting and special with his own phenomenal personal style. This artist just shines, and not for these aspects alone, Miyavi has a message. In his own words he says, 'We are one through music, we can unite' He is just magnificent Unity Peace Love OK That's all I got ♥ Here is to David and to keeping the arts alive! By the time 1986 rolled around, Duran Duran was at a major turning point in its career.
I love sunsets, books and that’s it.
I’ll never forget the Cure’s performance at Coachella 2009 when they pulled the plug on an excessively lengthy set by Robert Smith and his band. It was pretty unusual, but Cure fans were stoked with the fact that Smith had continued to perform despite the deactivation of sound. If you missed that unforgettable set or […]

Not much is known about Yumi Okita. But what we do know is that her moth creations are pretty, unique and GORGEOUS! I’d love to accidentally find one of her creatures resting on my wall. I would catch it, cuddle it and keep in a place where it cannot escape from. I know: that’s a bit cruel. Luckily, […]

This is a follow-up recipe to my veggie lunch meat. When I made the original recipe I did not try to make it taste like any specific meat since I have found that texture is often more important in a sandwich. This time, though, I attempted a smoked turkey/chicken type meat and the end result was met with great acclaim by the whole family. A few caveats though: 1. All I had on hand was Mori-Nu tofu; I'm not sure if this makes a big difference. 2. Not all liquid smoke is equal. I have gone with the cheap stuff before and it is pretty nasty. INGREDIENTS - 12oz firm tofu - 2 cups water - 1/4 cup oil - 2 tsp soy sauce - 1 tsp Bragg's - 1/4 cup nutritional yeast - 1 tsp paprika - 2 tsp onion powder - 1 tsp garlic powder - 1/4 tsp tumeric - 2 tsp poultry seasoning - 1/4 tsp hickory liquid smoke - 3 1/4 cups vital wheat gluten METHOD Get water steaming in your steamer. You will need a large steamer. 1. Place all ingredients except the gluten flour in a blender and process until very smooth. Pour into a bowl. Add gluten flour and work into a dough. Knead for a few mins to let gluten develop. 2. Shape dough into a log and wrap in heavy duty foil like a tootsie roll. Try to make the roll as thick as possible. Steam for 1 hour. 3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees in the last 15 mins of steaming. Remove seitan from steamer and bake for 40-50 mins. Seitan should swell and press against the foil. 4. Cool and slice as needed for sandwiches. This seitan holds up very well and can be shaved very thin. Store in the fridge or freezer. This recipe makes a lot, so you can cut it into 3 or four chunks and store them away for later.

Where does style come from? Frederick Taubes (who was a real smart guy) wrote that an artist's personal style "seems to stem from geography, climate, diet and other factors." Some people speculate that "other factors" might include eye disease. Others suggest that that stylistic distortions might be an artist's way of covering up for technical weaknesses. For example, illustrator Seymour Chwast, who draws with a flat, simplified style, stated that he avoids pictures "that require craftsmanship and a drawing ability that I do not have." Illustrator Edward Sorel, famous for drawing with loose swirls, said “I have never had the confidence that I could draw.... To me, a person with drawing skill is a guy who can sit down to a piece of paper and draw upon his familiarity with the body and with gesture, and do whatever he wants to do...” But ahhh, when an artist possesses the skill to "do whatever he wants to do,” and uses that skill to develop a personal style out of strength rather than weakness, the result can be a joy to behold. It becomes a full throated expression of the artist's personal reaction to the world's forms and colors. Which brings me to Carter Goodrich. Goodrich is one of those artists with the formidable drawing skill to do whatever he wants. The following Forbes cover from 1989, an illustration of Europeans courting the Russian bear... ...shows that Goodrich not only understands anatomy, facial expressions and body language (what Sorel called "gesture") but also that he has that rare and wonderful ability to spin his knowledge into all kinds of imaginative scenarios. Does he need to take a revealing human facial expression and posture, put them on a huge shaggy bear and dress her up in a fancy gown (complete with ursine cleavage)? Not a problem. Note the marvelous spread of her haunches-- a masterful touch, one that would escape a less imaginative artist. Unlike many artists with great technical skill, Goodrich never seems to have been tempted to waste his abilities on hard realism. Instead, he knew to follow his imagination and his powers of observation into a distinctive personal style. His wide faces, exaggerated bodies and distinctive palette have made his work instantly recognizable to readers of the New Yorker: More of Goodrich's delicious style is displayed in this illustration from The Emperor's New Clothes: Weird hairdos and faces, extravagant gestures and bizarre fabrics all given credibility by excellent drawing. Goodrich is such a master of visual story telling, he is free to take liberties with accuracy: In the following detail, note how Goodrich conveys speed with just the direction of those pencil strokes in the shadow of the hockey player, or how the white trail of that one skate dramatizes the ominous, searching approach, or how Goodrich directs our attention to that puck by engineering the highest contrast spot in the picture (a dense black shape framed in a white window) or how effectively he uses that foreshortened purple hockey stick to establish the spatial relationship with the goalie. Brilliant. Contrast how the lines under the player show directional speed while the lines surrounding the puck-- both horizontal and vertical-- do not. You wouldn't notice such tiny touches in the printed version, yet their effect would be unmistakeable. With such a rich assortment of tools at his disposal, Goodrich doesn't need to worry about drawing that front skate accurately in order to be understood. He has the freedom to play games with the foot (exaggerate it or draw it like a tiny stump) with no risk of confusing anyone. Similarly, he can disconnect that pelvis and make the skater look like a sack of bowling balls hurtling down the ice. The audience still gets it because Goodrich maintains such exquisite control over the image in other respects. You can't just take such liberties; if your style is genuine you have to earn them. Goodrich has not only earned his freedom, he knows how to put it to good use.

Are we There Yet? South African quilter Rosalie Dace is a studio artist who has been working in the fibre art, quilt and embroidery world since the '70's. With a background in art and education, she finds exhibiting, teaching, and judging combine her interests admirably. Her work, which reflects her passion for colour, design and texture, is characterized by its wild mix of fabrics. She has had a lifelong interest in textiles and embroidery and has a degree in Art and English. While she values the traditions from which quilt making has come, she believes that a quilt should say something about its time and place in history. This and her awareness of being a South African artist give her work its particular character. Almost Forgotten, Never Told Baghdad Rosalie has been described as a cultural anthropologist whose work defines the collective human experience. Her work is emotional and highly subjective, reflecting feelings of place and referring to memories and personal experiences, telling stories with which we can all identify. One quilt, a homage to her deceased father, a gardener, evokes the colours and shapes of his favourite environment, another of a local market. Another yet, recalling her excitement in returning home to South Africa, depicts an aerial view of the ocean over which she flew. She uses a variety of fabrics upon which to work, such as silk, African cloth and burlap. At times she decorates her quilts with beads, buttons, string, safety pins and other embellishments traditional to South African clothing and textiles. Night Flight Her work has been widely exhibited, and she has won several awards including Best of Show at the South African National Quilt Festival in 1988 and 1998, her quilts are to be found in private collections and in the Durban Art Gallery, and has appeared in national and international publications. Phoenix Apart from her native South Africa, she has taught and exhibited internationally in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Canada and the US, and was nominated for the Professional Quilter magazine’s “Teacher of the Year” Award in 2007. Apart from her normal art and teaching commitments she has been involved in programs aimed at training Zulu women embroidery skills for the Durban Manufacturing Advisory Centre and for a trust operating in rural KwaZulu-Natal. She is also involved in teaching patchwork and quilting to a group at an old age home in Durban. Word for Word Dace lives in Durban, South Africa but she also spends time each year working in the United States and is a much sought after teacher and speaker. She has been included in exhibitions in the US, Europe, New Zealand and Africa including the Houston International Quilt Festival; the Fresno Art Museum in Fresno, California; Galerie im Stadhaus in Bad Homburg, Germany; Shipley Art Gallery in Gateshead, United Kingdom; and the Jabulisa Exhibition, which toured South Africa from 2001 to 2003. She also co-developed the South African Quilters' Guild training program for judges and has judged art quilts all over the world.
