I added more decorative touches to the landing this weekend. It is so satisfying when you are getting much closer to achieving the look and feel that you want. I recently won a giveaway from SweetScarlett Pretty book plates. I was able to chose my own design and wording and Maggie did the rest. Thank you Maggie, I am really pleased with them! Here are some of the things which have made their way to my home recently. This beautiful 1930's mannequin head from Vintage Home recently made her way to my home. She is still in her box waiting for my work room to be finished. I look forward to finding the right spot for her. The detail on her face and paint work is incredible! Pretty tin from Country Cottage Chic Fabric and pins also from Country Cottage Chic Bought for £1 at a fair, not my sort of thing usually but I found myself quite drawn to it, so sweet! Lily of the Valley & forget- me -not small jug Bought for 50p in a bric a brac shop Gorgeous coat hanger from HenHouse . I love the pattern and the colours. Meet Larry. He was determined to get into my pictures every time I tried to photograph something for this post. Especially when I was photographing the kitten fabric, pins and floral tin. Fame at last, he made in to one of my blog pictures. He tried so hard, I couldn't let him down! And so as to not be left out, here is Lilly. She is quite shy! Lilly & Larry are brother & sister. They are lovely kittens with great individual personalities! We adopted them from the RSPCA in January. They are 10 months old. I have not been able to make anything for a while as all my fabrics, craft bits etc..are all packed away in boxes whilst my workroom is being worked on. I really look forward to making things again soon... And finally... A BIG THANK YOU to all you who left such kind and thoughtful messages on my last post. Your words meant a lot to us. Phoebe is amazed at how many of you left a comment. She also said how nice that all these people were thinking of her. It put a big smile on her face, thanks to YOU. A bientôt! Isabelle x

"Canning Season" Because we are deep into September... that means it's harvest time:) YaY! (click here for a canning guide) Because I grew up on a farm, we had plenty of room for growing. Every year we had several large gardens to take care of and when September rolled around, You could always find my mom, along with my sisters and I in the kitchen with jars piled high! It's my favorite time of the year... So of course I had to design this cute little block of canning jars:) (don't worry...canning is easy) Sew a white strip to each side of the gray strip and press towards the gray... like this. Now choose your fabrics for the jar sections. Here I have chosen; orange for carrots or peaches green for peas or sweet pickle relish gold for pears or sweet corn purple for beets or plums aqua for an empty jar! (vintage of course) red for cherries or tomatoes Sew 4 easy corner triangles onto each jar. The larger squares go on the top... and the tiny squares go on the bottom. Trim off the seam allowances... and press towards the triangles. Now sew a lid onto each jar. Press seams open for less bulk. Sew jars into 2 rows of 3 across. Press seams open again:) Sew the 2 rows together to form your Canning Season block! Back of my Canning Season block. Don't you just love how canning jars look lined along the shelves of your pantry? Now build your cute barn with a silo around your Canning Season block! All of the bounty from your garden is now put away so that you can have a taste of summer during the long cold winter:) YaY!... 4 of the barns on my design board. Now get to sewing and have a barn buildin' kind of day! (after you get all of your canning done... of course:) xx Lori (cute canning supplies)
Ich habe in den letzten Wochen gleich drei "Darling Ranges" von Megan Nielsen genäht, die ich hier neben dem Schnittmuster alle vorstellen werde, so dass man sieht, wie ein Stoff einen Schnitt verände
It feels like an age since I made these. It was in fact early mid September and there was still a little sun around and enough warmth to bare a little skin. Megan Nielsen put a shout out for pattern testers some time ago and I got an email to test the tweaked PDF version of Darling Ranges Dress. It had been modified and a bonus tunic/shirt pattern was added. That is what I started with. I was pretty sceptical at the tunic pattern in theory as it had no darts so I was expecting this to become a Pyjama top but I was very pleasantly surprised with the simplicity of this and how effective it was. I made a size S, I had already done a small bust adjustment on the bodice and the darts are not sewn for this shirt, extended the sleeves and added an elastic cuff using method 2 from Megan's tutorials. The fabric came from Al, not quite sure what it is- a little viscose or rayon is in there and it dries really fast- what it does have is great drape for a light weight fabric and that's essential for this top- no quilting cotton for this one, it needs drape. Then on to the Darling Ranges dress. Size S with added back darts. I took it in a little at the waist- about ½" on each side and I also added the waist ties. It is an easy, relaxed fit. I placed all the gathers to the centre front and back so the hips are smooth as I know this suits me. The fabric was Flumes by Sarah Watson for Art Gallery, the Luxe in Bloom range. Art Gallery cottons are a lovely weight for dresses and have a silkier feel than most quilting cottons. I used 2.5 metres to make this dress. There was a great little circle pattern to fussy cut for the fabric covered buttons. They are also so easy to make- tute here. And my little helper was on hand to photo bomb the pics. Megan took all the pattern testers' comments on board and tweaked the pattern further and it was a pleasure to test for her. You can find all her PDF patterns here.
