Then the stitch pattern gradually becomes 1x1 ribbing, which becomes more voluminous brioche stitch at the center of the shawl. The second side mirrors the first, but features a contrast color, which is worked in intarsia until it is worked over the whole width of the shawl. This pretty one-skein crescent-shaped shawl is worked from the bottom up with a pretty lace border reminiscent of the lace pattern of the Contentment Cowl. The stockinette stitch body is shaped with short rows and finishes with a lovely eyelet edge at the top of the shawl. Two shawls are shown here. One is in Madelinetosh Tosh Sock and the colour is Oak. The second shawl is in Red Sock Blue Sock Comfort Sock and the colour is Eggplant. Pattern includes notes, list of abbreviations, diagram, and the lace stitch is both charted and written. Finished measurements: Approximately 16.5 inches (42 cm) wide at middle and 65 inches (165 cm) long, blocked. Skills required: knitting lace, working short rows, blocking lace. Broadwyn is an asymmetrical triangle knit from the short end, with decreases on one side & a lace panel on the other to make a long scarf-like shawl. With i-cord all around (an i-cord cast on, then inline i-cord edging), it is a modern & dynamic addition to any wardrobe, no matter how you drape it. Throw it on, toss the end around, and enjoy! This shawl begins with an i-cord cast-on. A video tutorial is available here . Yarn: 875 yards of fingering weight yarn. Shown in Mrs. Crosby Satchel 100% Merino Wool, 370 yds in 100g in Greystone. Gauge: 22 sts & 36 rows = 4 inches 10 cm square in garter stitch after blocking. Finished size: 80 inches (203 cm) long & 23 inches (58.5 cm) wide at the widest (cast-on) end ( see schematic ) Needles: 3.5 mm (US4) needles for flat knitting Notions: tapestry needle for grafting and weaving in ends, 2 stitch markers. Asterism has plenty of relaxing garter stitch and delicate eyelet details that add interest and lightness to the shawl. The shawl begins with just one stitch and is knitted on the bias to the opposite edge, creating an asymmetric triangle shape. The cable pattern is straight-forward, creating a complex texture without a complicated construction.
