Linocut on Fabriano Rosapina 220g ivory paper. Illustration taken from my project "Rendez-vous bleu". This linocut can be used as a wall decoration, why not combined with other illustrations. I manually print each copy, so each is unique with slight variations in color. There are 50 numbered and signed prints. Format 23 x 16 cm. They are sold unframed. I draw my project directly on the linoleum and cut using a sharp knife. Then I roll a water-based ink on the lino and lay the paper to make a manual print. If you would like another color than those offered, or if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask me.
With a decidedly Victorian twist, Olex Oleole puts together images that don’t quite fit together. A phonograph emerges from a heart while what look like animals behinds are sliced off and held together by two strings. Eventually, themes begin to emerge. A Nike logo appears over a cryptic figure with the snarky title Throw caution to the wind and just do it. Another shows a woman’s head turned into a vintage camera with the words Maybe you should consider keeping your selfies to yourself? Each piece feels surreal even while it looks familiar. The juxtaposition of human and machine or modern logo and mysterious character feels like a puzzle waiting to be solved. Once you put the pieces together — mostly with the help of each biting title — the other little details make the joke that much funnier. The conflation of time works just right, as the men and women in Victorian dress remind us of the age-old folies of vanity, consumption and more.

As 2014 starts to shut up shop, its time for some contemplation, possibly on a zoetrope pot, or maybe some reflection with some clay doodling. The above image is of Russian potter Mikhail Sadovnikov, doodling in the clay, to create captivating mandalas on his pottery wheel. Guaranteed to get the creative juices fired up, while maybe provoking a hypnotic trance from staring at the motion of the wheel for too long.. The prolonged focus and concentration is a meditation in itself. I’m sure for some, the act of manipulating clay on a wheel is a therapeutic

Traditionally, many people on the East Asian mainland had to be constantly on the lookout for tigers, which they recognized as savage, man-eating beasts. As the same time, they held tigers in awe as sacred animals that kept various demons at bay. The tiger does not belong in the same category of fantastic animal as the dragon or phoenix. Rather, it exists in the real world and has had a place in people’s everyday lives from antiquity. The tiger image was inscribed on jade vessels in prehistoric times as well as on weapons and sacrificial implements during the Bronze Age as a symbol of valor or a magical charm.
