The first house is the most personal point of the chart. This represents the physical body and the incarnation for this lifetime. It represents the beginning of life and is known by the Greeks as 'The Horoscope'. In traditional and horary astrology the first house always represents the subject of the reading. Mercury is in its joy here.

Her early "adventure" stories involved surprisingly little action and her first novel (three pages long) was politely declined by publishers at age 11. After earning a BSc in Biology and working as a support worker and then a nurse, the idea for her debut novel, Fireborn, came to her as she moved back and forth between London and the US. Now based in Hackney, when she is not reading or writing, Aisling loves cooking and plotting adventures (for herself as well as her fictional characters).

I was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) when I was twelve. I’m not going to lie: it wasn’t the most exciting news to hear as a 12-year-old. I would have much rather been diagnosed with good looks or extreme athleticism, but instead I had self-doubt and anxiety. I still have OCD today. I experience […]

On June 27, 1868, Hole in the Day (Bagonegiizhig) the Younger left Crow Wing, Minnesota, for Washington, DC, to fight the planned removal of the Mississippi Ojibwe to a reservation at White Earth. Several miles from his home, the self-styled leader of all the Ojibwe was stopped by at least twelve Ojibwe men and fatally shot. Hole in the Day's death was national news, and rumors of its cause were many: personal jealousy, retribution for his claiming to be head chief of the Ojibwe, retaliation for the attacks he fomented in 1862, or retribution for his attempts to keep mixed-blood Ojibwe off the White Earth Reservation. Still later, investigators found evidence of a more disturbing plot involving some of his closest colleagues: the business elite at Crow Wing. While most historians concentrate on the Ojibwe relationship with whites to explain this story, Anton Treuer focuses on interactions with other tribes, the role of Ojibwe culture and tradition, and interviews with more than fifty elders to further explain the events leading up to the death of Hole in the Day. The Assassination of Hole in the Day is not only the biography of a powerful leader but an extraordinarily insightful analysis of a pivotal time in the history of the Ojibwe people. Praise for The Assassination of Hole in the Day "An essential study of nineteenth-century Ojibwe leadership and an important contribution to the field of American Indian Studies by an author of extraordinary knowledge and talent. Treuer's work is infused with a powerful command over Ojibwe culture and linguistics."—Ned Blackhawk, author of Violence Over the Land: Indians and Empires in the Early American West "The Assassination of Hole in the Day is a masterful history, and more. Anton Treuer illuminates the character of a controversial and charismatic Ojibwe leader from within Ojibwe culture, and tells a powerful story of loss that reverberates in the present."—Louise Erdrich "This is more than a murder mystery. It provides insights into the evolution of clan structure, tribal governance and relations with the Dakota and other tribes since the time a century and a half ago when white pressure, the declining fur trade and other factors led to the cession of great tracts of land and the people's removal to reservations." —Minneapolis Star Tribune "This highly recommended work provides insights into the challenges faced by native peoples during an era when they were under intense pressure by the federal government to move to reservations."—Library Journal "Treuer explores the life and death of this brash young leader, and delves into tribal history and the intricate machinations of Ojibwa politics." —Booklist Product DetailsISBN-13: 9780873518437 Media Type: Paperback(1) Publisher: Minnesota Historical Society Press Publication Date: 08-01-2011 Pages: 320 Product Dimensions: 6.00(w) x 9.00(h) x 1.10(d)About the Author Anton Treuer, professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University, is the author of Ojibwe in Minnesota and several books on the Ojibwe language. He is also the editor of Oshkaabewis Native Journal, the only academic journal of the Ojibwe language.

Pink to make the girls wink...
Hi! I'm Taria, a travel artist originally from the UK. At the end of 2019, I visited Australia and (amongst other things) drove the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. What an adventure! One of the stops along the way was the famous view of the Twelve Apostles. This is a print of an original watercolour illustration by me, Taria. This is an unframed 8x10 inches print, printed to the highest standards using archival quality, Fine Art Trade Guild approved printers, inks and papers — tests have shown these prints last over 100 years. The paper is Somerset Enhanced Velvet 225gsm and has a slight texture, ensuring the print can represent the watercolour paint in the best way. The print will not be shipped with frame or mount. Why prints? I like to sell prints of my work to make them more accessible to a wider audience. The price is more affordable, and more than one person can enjoy my work hanging on the wall. How about originals? I absolutely do sell original works too, and I love nothing more than spending hours on personal commissions. I love to draw buildings, and as such most commissions I do are of wedding venues, homes (past and present), or any building that holds special memories to the recipient. If you would like to talk to me about a commission, please get in touch. If you would like to follow my sketchy adventures around the world, check out my website: www.lookingouttosee.com where I share illustrated blog posts of the places I travel to. Processing Times and Postage All orders are processed and dispatched within 3-5 working days. UK orders are printed in the UK and will be posted Royal Mail First Class. International orders will be posted standard delivery. US orders are printed in the US and will be sent via USPS. Packaging - Commitment to Recycled & Recyclable Materials Your print will be sandwiched between two sheets of acid-free tissue paper and then sandwiched between two pieces of board. The two boards are taped together at each of the four sides to keep the prints from moving. This is then placed inside a mailbag. All the materials I use are recyclable, I use paper tape, rather than sellotape, for fixing the boards that protect the prints, the plastic mail bags are made from recycled plastic and are themselves recyclable. Who am I? I am a travel artist originally from the UK. Lots of things that start with the letter S and a few Ts and Ws as well. These weird old German dictionary prints offer so many crafty possibilities and they really are just too much fun! This very cool original double-sided illustrated page is from an 1890 antique English/German illustrated dictionary published for Mennonite and Amish children at the end of the 19th century; twelve weird and nifty little engraved images are printed on each side. I've been holding on to this collection with the intention of using these cool 2" x 1.5" images to make domino/poker-chip pendants and key-fobs with them, but so far I haven't done that yet, so I'm offering them here to you for you to do something fun with them. This 7.5" x 10" page like the others in this series, is in well-loved condition with a lovely soft and even light tanning and the usual spots and finger smudges one finds on antique paper that's 121 years old; in other words, it's not new and certainly not perfect. Matted, framed, and displayed as a gallery grouping, these wonderful antique children's prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photo are just to show how this might look when it's matted and framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.) Surrender Dorothy offers a non-stop jaw-dropping cornucopia of frame-worthy antique and vintage prints, drawings, sketches, plans, lithos, engravings, posters, maps, charts, and illustrations of all kinds to adorn every room in your happy home.
