If TV and newspapers tell us anything, it’s that working in advertising back in the 60′s and 70′s was fun, booze-fueled and that everyone smoked lots and had buxom secretaries...Perhaps bearing this in mind it’s no surprise......
Another batch of early Bernie Fuchs advertising illustration scans from Charlie Allen, who writes: "Fuchs was like a bright meteor in a very dark sky... a new, positive and unavoidable force in our illustration world. His best work was at the beginning... lasting five, maybe ten, years." He continues, "these seem to fit his earlier more conservative side....and being ads helps. He was much farther out on his editorial stuff." "Fuchs was pure genius....loose....but every figure, object, background, harmony, color and value....everything was carefully done to make the illustration work." "All with energy, taste, beauty, and integrity! Talk about an inspiration..." "... but for us older competitive types, very humbling!" "Enough..... Chas." Thanks, Charlie! Be sure to drop by Charlie Allen's Blog to see some of Charlie's own inspiring (and humbling) artwork. * My Bernie Fuchs Flickr set.

More advertising that wouldn't quite cut it in today's world. Perhaps one of the most unhealthy snacks. Wow! A nice suggestive ad. Doctors also used to advertise cigarettes. As well as movie stars. Have a cigarette to help your asthma.
It is amazing how much the human perspective has changed in the last fifty years. Before the expansion of modern medicine and psychiatric care, people were exposed to brutal procedures and morbid beliefs. In the last 500 years, many strange political ideals have been adopted all over the world.

A lot can change in, say, 50 years. Just look at the car or communication industry. How we eat is no exception. And nothing shows it as vividly as the Facebook group Questionable Vintage Recipes.
