About The Artwork “Another way to look at meditation is to view the process of thinking itself as a waterfall, a continual cascading of thought. In cultivating mindfulness we are going beyond or behind our thinking, much the way you might find a vantagepoint in a cave or depression in a rock behind a waterfall. We still see and hear the water, but we are out of the torrent.” ― Jon Kabat-Zinn, Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life Original Created: 2018 Subjects: Landscape Materials: Canvas Styles: Fine Art Impressionism Realism Mediums: Acrylic Details & Dimensions Painting: Acrylic on Canvas Original: One-of-a-kind Artwork Size: 15 W x 30 H x 1.5 D in Frame: Not Framed Ready to Hang: Not applicable Packaging: Ships in a Box

-UNFRAMED- TITLE: "The Water and the Light" - Open Edition Giclee PRINT from the original watercolor. ……………………………………… UNFRAMED & UNMATTED: - My prints are sold unframed and unmatted. The framed and matted pictures are for display purposes only. I also try to provide ideas of how you can have them framed and matted at your local frame shop. ……………………………………… DETAILS: - The print is signed by the artist. -NOTE: Some of the sizes crop a little from the top and bottom or the sides. If the size crops very much it will be pictured. I try to provide a wide variety of sizes for each print including sizes that fit standard frames and sizes that allow for matting to be added to standard sized frames. - Custom sizes available upon request - The "print size" is the size of the actual image. I include a 1" white border in addition to the print size (for example: a 9" x 12" print has a 1" white border on all sides making the final paper size 11" x 14"). In the white border along the bottom of the print is the title of the print. - The print is on textured fine art paper that has a similar look and feel to watercolor paper. - I use archival, high quality, pigmented inks that are rated to last up to 200 years under optimal conditions. It is best, however, to limit direct sun exposure to prints and originals, or at least be aware that continual, direct sunlight will shorten the lifespan of any piece of art no matter how good the quality of pigment is.

Immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of Scotland's natural landscape with this captivating illustration. In the foreground, a lone figure stands poised mid-cast, etching a line above the glassy River Conon. His silhouette suggests a moment of peaceful solitude, harmoniously intertwined with the serene flow of the waters below. Encircling the angler, the heathland comes alive with a flourish of heather; its blooms paint a vivacious tapestry in shades of pink and mauve, a testament to the wild beauty of Scotland's countryside. The plants dance with the gentle caress of the unseen breeze, their vivid hues enriched by the gentle glow of sunlight. The middle ground extends into a panoply of undulating hills, their contours outlined against the expansive sky. The play of light and shadow upon these grassy slopes creates a vibrant contrast, hinting at the endless adventure these highlands hold. Above, the sky unfolds in a vast expanse of serene blue, punctuated by the soft brush of white clouds, casting a gentle light that complements the landscape's vivid colours. And in the distance, an enigmatic copse of trees stands watch over the river's gentle meander, their dark forms a stark contrast against the fields of heather, while further still, the faint outline of a traditional structure whispers tales of Scotland's rich heritage. This contemporary print invites the viewer to a moment of contemplation, a quiet communion with the great outdoors where time seems to slow, and nature's embrace is felt most intimately. Suitable for any lover of fishing, nature, or the sheer beauty that Scottish landscapes behold, this piece will turn any space into a window to the serene Scottish outdoors.
Immerse yourself in the vivid, dynamic beauty of the Scottish Highlands with this captivating print. As part of our 'Scottish Waterfalls' collection, this piece takes its inspiration from the renowned Steall Falls, nestled within the dramatic landscapes of Glen Nevis. The artwork channels the essence of 'Color Field' painting, showcasing an expansive palette that transforms the natural scenery into a tapestry of colour and emotion. Swathes of azure and cobalt mingle with vibrant oranges and yellows, suggesting the play of light across rugged cliff faces and the tranquil waters below. At the heart of the composition, the fall's majestic cascade is rendered in sweeping gestural strokes of white and icy blue, capturing the unbridled power and grace of water in motion. These dynamic ribbons of paint draw the eye across the canvas, creating a sense of depth that invites viewers to step into the scene. In the foreground, a serene pool reflects the fiery hues of the surrounding foliage, adding a profound sense of calm to the artwork. The skillful application of blocks of colour evokes a contemplative mood, encouraging the onlooker to pause and reflect on the natural beauty of the Scottish wilderness. This print promises to bring a touch of the serene and spellbinding Highlands into any space, offering viewers a momentary escape to a world where nature's grandeur is expressed through bold, expressive colours and forms. It's an enchanting rendition of one of Scotland's most mesmerising landscapes, perfect for those who cherish the great outdoors and the art that celebrates it.

Kuang Si or Kouang Si Waterfall is one of the highlights – if not THE highlight – of Luang Prabang. This is how to get to Kuang Si Waterfall in Luang Prabang.
Oil on canvas; 81.3 x 65.4 cm. Frits Thaulow (20 October 1847 – 5 November 1906) was a Norwegian impressionist painter, best known for his naturalistic depictions of landscape. Johan Frederik Thaulow was born in Christiania, the son of the wealthy chemist, Harald Thaulow (1815–1881) and Nicoline ("Nina") Louise Munch (1821–1894). Thaulow was educated at the Academy of Art in Copenhagen in 1870–72, and from 1873–75 he studied with Hans Gude at the Baden School of Art in Karlsruhe. After a stay in Skagen during the autumn of 1879, Thaulow returned to Norway in 1880. He became one of the leading young figures in the Norwegian art scene, together with Christian Krohg and Erik Werenskiold, and helped established the first National Art Exhibit (also known as Høstutstillingen or Autumn Exhibit) in 1882. Many of Thaulow's best known Norwegian scenes are from Åsgårdstrand, which had become an important center for artists and painters dating from the 1880s. Thaulow moved to France in 1892, living there until his death in 1906. Thaulow soon discovered that the cityscapes of Paris did not suit him. His best paintings were made in small towns such as Montreuil-sur-Mer (1892–94), Dieppe and surrounding villages from (1894–98), Quimperle in Brittany in (1901) and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne in the Corrèze département (1903). Thaulow received a number of honors for his artistic activity, including his appointment as commander of the 2nd Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1905. He received the French Legion of Honor, Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus from Italy and the Order of Nichan Iftikhar from Tunisia. He died in Volendam, in the Netherlands. The National Gallery of Norway features 37 of his works. Other prominent displays include The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard University.
A matte painting is a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that would otherwise be too expensive or impossible to build or visit.(source). Ages ago, extremely talented artists painted these realistic scenes on large sheets of glass. With the invention of Adobe Photoshop, things began to change. What used to require laborious work in a film studio with several lengths of film and expensive, specialized cameras can now be done on a home computer with easily available software. No matter how you approach it, Photoshop has become an integral part of the process. (source: Basic Principles of Digital Matte Painting)
