En ja, dat is onhygiënisch. Microbiologen ontdekten in 2011 bijvoorbeeld dat de bacterie Clostridium difficile tot 25 cm boven de toiletpot wordt gelanceerd als het deksel niet dicht is bij het doorspoelen. Door met gesloten deksel door de spoelen bleef de verspreiding van de bacterie, die onder meer diarree kan veroorzaken, tot een minimum beperkt. En ja, mannen plassen graag staand. Dat spettert. Oplossing? De meest voor de hand liggende oplossing voor de dekseldiscussie: installeer een urinoir naast het toilet. Maar daarmee ben je nog niet van het spettergezeik af.
