Yummy substitute for potatoes, side dish or my family liked it so much I think we could make it a meal. I mixed all ingredients together in the baking dish and skipped the extra dishes and I left out the mushrooms and decreased the amount of chives but when I entered the recipe I entered it just as I found it on facebook. My family is still raving about this dish.

You may know figs from such cookies as “Fig Newtons,” or references to figgy pudding in Christmas carols, but it's time you had a real introduction to their flavor. Indeed, this sweet fig preserves and red wine glaze is a perfect match to a succulent pork tenderloin. With goat cheese-topped Brussels and carrots on the side, you'll be grateful for expanding your fruit horizons beyond cookies.

October reminds me of "Oktoberfest" which reminds me of this recipe. Years ago, when my oldest son was in high school, his German class had a celebration and each student was to bring a "German dish" to share with the class. My son surfed the net and chose this one. He made it for his class (with my help, of course) and everyone enjoyed it with some of the students actually asking him for the recipe. I am not sure of its authenticity but we liked it and still make it today when he comes home on leave for a visit.
You may have heard of the saying ‘when it rains pumpkins, make soup and gently sell it’. Well in the same spirit I say when peas are in season, make this salad. It's colourful, super-fresh and really yummy. For maximum flavour, make sure make the peas are at room temperature when you serve the salad.

Bake up a dozen tasty meat- and veggie- filled pastries with this wonderful recipe. The pastry has lard which makes it flaky and easy to handle. And the filling is the perfect balance of meat and vegetables. Bake them in pie shells or on cookie sheets. Either way, they 're fantastic.
This soup is so quick and easy because there aren’t many vegetables to chop (just garlic and onion—that’s it!) and it relies mostly on pantry staples. It takes 15 minutes prep time (that includes getting the ingredients out), and then it’s hands off while it cooks. Talk about easy! While this soup contains a lot of spices, it's not what I would call "spicy" or "hot". If you do want a kick of heat feel free to add some cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes. Also, feel free to change up the baby spinach for other greens like stemmed kale or chard.
Thanks to a challenge in the TOH online community a few years back, my husband and I tried parsnips and discovered that we liked them! In fact, I started growing them in my garden and have been trying new things with them, including this recipe. —Sue Gronholz, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
This creamy sweet potato and red lentil curry takes around 30 minutes to cook and is the perfect cozy recipe! It's vegan, gluten-free and super flavorful!
In my home, these German Pancakes are comfort food. My mother, who was born and raised in Southern Germany (Bavaria) served these pancakes to us. Now, my own son enjoys memories of his "Oma" serving these to him, when he was a little kid. Traditionally, we liked to fill the the pancakes with strawberry jam or homemade lemon curd. Sometimes I simply dust these pancakes with powdered sugar and lemon juice. I make extra pancakes, because they reheat so well in the microwave.
Aloha! Hailing from Hawaii, huli huli is a cooking method that involves roasting chicken on a spit and serving with a teriyaki-like sauce. (“Huli” is the Hawaiian word for “turn.” When the spit would turn, the people would shout “huli!”) We're not sending a spit, or shouting Hawaiians, in your box with this meal, but we've got succulent chicken, delicious teriyaki, and sweet pineapple to recreate the huli huli experience. You'll almost hear the waves lapping up on the shore. Tip: Want to get the most juice out of your lime? Before cutting, microwave for 15-20 seconds to "soften" the fruit. Then, gently roll the softened fruit on your work surface while pressing on it with your palm. Finally, give yourself some serious mechanical advantage by placing a cut half in between the arms of a pair of tongs to make squeezing much easier.

This is probably Pete's favorite thing that I make. We're having it for dinner tonight. It's from one of my Pampered Chef cookbooks and can be made into a wreath, braid or ring with crescent rolls. I usually make the ring. I've included some pics explaining how to make it at the end. Chicken Club Ring Ingredients: 3 cups chopped cooked chicken 4 slices of bacon, crisply cooked drained and chopped 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or Cheddar), divided 1/3 cup mayonnaise (I use more!) 1 teaspoon mustard 2 tablespoons of parsley 1 garlic clove, pressed 2 plum tomatoes, sliced 1 egg white, lightly beaten 2 tubes of original Pillsbury Crescent rolls 1. Preheat oven to 375° 2. Combine chicken, bacon, ¾ cup of the cheese, mayonnaise, mustard, parsley and garlic; mix well. 3. Scoop filling evenly over crescents. Top with tomato slices*. 4. Complete your wreath, ring or braid and brush on egg white 5. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. 6. Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown Serves 8 *Pete prefers I omit the tomato slices. Here's pics of how to make the ring:

Ah, college cooking. It brings to mind such sophisticated fare as Rice Krispie treats (eaten straight out of the bowl, of course), thick dining hall chili, boxed brownie mixes and the like. For me, college was when I really figured out that I liked to cook, so my memories actually include somewhat sophisticated foods like homemade pita bread, baba ghanoush, gnocchi, and risotto. I found a few favorite recipes along the way that I still use today — read on to find out which ones!

This recipe has been in my files for a long time...probably from when I first learned to bake. Any chocolate lover will like these melt-in-your-mouth cookies. I make them year-round with variations. They're even richer with a thin coat of icing or as a sandwich cookie with frosting in the middle. —Sarah Bueckert, Austin, Manitoba
This classic French salad is featured on crudites (raw vegetable salad) plates in bistros and cafés. It can be served as a main course salad or alongside grilled meats, fish, or chicken. The recipe can easily be doubled. Each batch is different so plan on seasoning the salad with additional lemon juice or salt, if desired.
My family is of German Lutheran descent, and although we enjoy this traditional beef roast, I never liked the amount of time and fuss it takes to make it. This recipe is so good and oh-so-easy. It's great served with dumplings, spaetzle, veggies or a salad. —Norma English, Baden, Pennsylvania
