Oscillating illustrator, obsessive pastelist, cartoonist, pyromaniac, creator of wonderful record covers, Tarot card aficionado, billboard creator, painter, music, movie and literature buff from the very beginning (not necessarily in that order and preferably not separated), his attitude towards computers is hostiles, and he types on keyboards with one finger, like François Truffaut. English artist Ed Fairburn (previously) uses vintage road maps and star charts as canvases for drawn portraits. Cross-hatched patterns and shaded regions inside roads, borders, and rivers assimilate into the contours of faces as if the images had always been secretly hidden in the map’s topography. “In his hands, both built infrastructure and natural phenomena echo the organic human form,” shares Mike Wright Gallery. “National highway systems become capillaries, and the tangle of Paris’ alleyways become the wrinkles that give the face history and individuality.” Fairburn opens a new show of work alongside artist John Wentz today at Mike Wright in Denver. Katie Butler is a visual artist living and working out of her home in Toronto, Canada. Katie works mainly with acrylics to create colourful and moody figurative paintings. Her love for painting was reignited in 2019, when she began offering commission portraits surrounding themes of body positivity. Since then, her work has pivoted towards the portrayal of candid moments. Katie uses her art as a means for storytelling — depicting scenes where the subject becomes the character of a larger narrative, often through the expressive nature of the human form. Pictured here in a size medium.

Exhibiting alongside artists such as Marc Quinn and Michael Craig-Martin in the Guildhall Art Gallery’s largest ever upcoming exhibition, Nature Morte, Cindy Wright is taking the contemporary painting world by storm. Her unsettling still-life oil paintings modernise classical Vanitas techniques to make, as described by the previous director of the Las Vegas Art Museum Libby Lumpkin, ‘arrestingly claustrophobic’ imagery. By juxtaposing domestic objects then rendering them in oils with exceptional skill, she turns the mundane into sensuous and disconcerting imagery that forces viewers to reconsider their every-day.

“Mammon.” A painting by Alex Gross. “Past success is no guarantee of future success, and anything is possible. It’s something that I try not to forget.” —Artist Alex Gross on what keeps him going. You may already be familiar with the work of New York-based artist Alex Gross as his striking surrealist pop creations have been seen in many publications including The Los Angeles Times. His warped, hyperrealistic artwork was also compiled into a couple of books—one in 2008 by Bruce Sterling, The Art of Alex Gross: Paintings and Other Works, and another published in 2014, Future Tense, Paintings by Alex Gross, 2010-2014. It’s clear from Gross’ take on modern times that, like many of us, he may have already abandoned hope for the future. And his most recent gallery show, “Antisocial Network,” his first in nearly ten years back in February of this year, is a perfect example of his perhaps dim outlook on our collective existence. The work featured in the show was the result of two years of observation and reflection while the world began its downward spiral and the U.S. somehow ended up with a “president” that says shit like this. Many...

Dear all, Here I share the work of my former student, Joey Jong. I am happy for her results though I thought her work could hit an A*—at least 90%. Be it October Exam or June Exam, and I can conclude that - - it's very challenging if you are aiming for good grades for this new syllabus (2020 onwards), the student needs to work hard, and you have to strategize and plan for each of your student topic selections. - the grading is always not consistent. Be it for Oct or June Exams - if the student wants to aim for B and above, 'Painting and related media' is the safest style to explore. Anyways, Congratulations to her and I am so proud to share her work with all of you here! Component 1 - Coursework (Nature) (A grade) Component 2 - ESA (A pile of washing up) (A grade) Overall: 86% A Grade Component 1 - Coursework ( 4 pages with back-to-back studies) Component 2 - Externally Set Assignment (2 pages with back-to-back studies) *************************************************************************** Thank you for visiting my blog.
