In looking for botanical inspiration for my new book, I stumbled across this beautiful photo online by photographer, Steve Stenzel. I love this photo for so many reasons but I especially am impressed by how it represents the life cycle of this particular plant. From the new growth of spring all the way to the end of autumn. I am so drawn to this natural color palette. So much so in fact.. that I showed this picture to the ladies of Spincycle Yarns and they used it in creating a special new colorway just for me. And they did such a phenomenal job! This beautiful yarn perfectly captures the colors of changing leaves. The way that the colors subtly change from one to the next perfectly expresses this idea of the natural life cycle of spring to autumn. I am not usually one to go for multi-colored yarn.. but this one I love. With this yarn I created my "Life Cycle" scarf design. This is an accent scarf consisting of a string of big leaves.. one growing out of the next. It works so perfectly with this yarn and I am so happy with it. This scarf pattern will be included in my upcoming book, Botanical Knits 2. The scarf pattern will call for 2 skeins of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool yarn. This special colorway is called "End of Summer" and is available HERE.

Nicoletta Ceccoli’s paintings are the visual counterparts of fairy tales. Beautiful, whimsical, and wondrous yet more gruesome than they initially seem.

This beautiful wildflower looks like columbine to me. Mother Nature certainly picked a lovely spot to plant the seeds, didn't she. No floral arranger could match this arrangement. Hello April. Today is Webster's 11th birthday. He has already had several dog biscuits with peanut butter spread on them for his special day. We had rain overnight and will have more today so the April showers are right on schedule. See you later. via Correction....these flowers are Oxalis acetosella, submitted by a reader (Cathy in Idaho). Thanks, Cathy.
Pin It Now! I used to make lor bak with my mum especially when we are having big feast. Lor bak is actually marinated minced pork together with all sorts of vegetables, roll in beancurd sheet and then deep fried. Thanks to Butter.Flour and Me for her tofu rolls recipe. She inspired me to make this vegetarian tofu rolls. These tofu rolls is soft inside with lightly crispy outside. All the root vegetables turn soft except water chestnut. It gives little crunch texture to these rolls. This is how I dice the chestnut. Put cut water chestnut into plastic bag. Then disintegrate the water chestnuts with the back of a knife or cleaver These are the ingredients for filling. This mixed filling is ready to be rolled. This is how I wrap with beancurd sheet. Reference from Butter.Flour and Me Ingredients: ~Filling 200g soft tofu (can replace with 2 pieces of firm tofu, 豆干),mashed 200g yam, shredded 200g jicama (sengkuang), shredded 60g carrot, shredded 5 pieces water chestnut, peeled and diced ½ stick of celery, finely diced 10 tablespoons instant oatmeal 1 egg ~seasoning ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon sesame oil 1 piece dry beancurd sheet (tofu skin) for wrapping *cut into triangle shape or any shape that you prefer Oil, for deep-frying Methods: 1. Add all the filling and seasoning into a mixing bowl. Mix to combine. 2. Wrap the filling with beancurd sheet. Repeat till all finish. 3. Heat enough cooking oil in a wok. When the oil is fully heated, turn the heat to medium. Gently drop in tofu rolls. Deep frying the rolls till turn golden brown. Remove and place on kitchen towel to absorb excess oil. Serve with your favourite dipping sauce! Note: ~These tofu rolls can be kept well in freezer. For easy removing, keep the rolls on plastic wrap without touching each other. When the time to consume, take out the frozen roll and pan fry (without adding any oil) on non-stick pan at low heat till the filling heat through and the tofu skin is crisp. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm the host for November 2013 The Little Thumbs Up event with Oats theme. Something that is junk to us, is often a treasure for somebody else. For example, Simon Brown (or thegentlemanfelter) collects old and worn out brushes that anyone else would think of as useless. But he turns them into meadows for foxes or tree branches for birds, and he fills these creations with curiosity and life.

As part of my dinnerware collection I created this wood grain pattern to be used for the napkins. This picture is just a photoshopped example but once the fabric comes in I'll have pictures of the real things including the napkin rings.

We found a number of beautiful fungi yesterday growing on dead wood. Today I am uploading two of them. Unfortunately our fungus season is almost over until next April. This group was such a beautiful example of the Split Gill fungus that I had to take a number of photos of it. Growing on the underside a dead willow log. Come take a look at some things I find most wonderful!! Lovely! Forgotten beauty! From the hydrangeas to the shutters...this is a beautiful outdoor entertainment area. A hot air balloon ride over the Château de Chenonceau, France. What a treat! A perfect place to be alone, or have a secret rendezvous! I love everything about this room. I feel like an imprisoned queen....with a great view! Two views of a bedroom that I adore. I love interesting wall treatments and this one is particularly lovely. Mirrors in the jardin. I love the idea! We should use mirrors outdoors more. Lovely chandelier! A beautiful room in a French chateau. The Washhouses of Pontrieux in Brittany, France (by Yann Le Biannic). I love harlequin floors! This one in an old chateau is beautiful even with it's missing pieces. I think this is a lovely bedroom. The lavender coverlet is sumptuous! And the architectural element behind the bed...well need I say more? Tulips are one of my favorite flowers. View of a garden through Gothic arches. Please visit again!!
