Leo Lionni (1910-1999) is best known as the author and illustrator of forty children's picture books including the Caldecott Honor recipients Inch By Inch (1961), Swimmy (1964), Frederick (1968), and Alexander And The Wind-Up Mouse (1970). In addition to his children's work, Lionni worked in advertising, was the art director of Fortune magazine for twelve years, and was a well regarded painter and sculptor. Alphonse Mucha in 1906 photo by George R. Lawrence Co., Chicago Alphonse (Alfons) Mucha (1860 – 1939) was a Czech painter and decorative artist born in 1860 born in the town of Ivančice, Moravia. He is best known for his luxurious poster and product designs, which encapsulate the Art Nouveau style.
