Antique Morimura - Original Nippon Hand Painted & Gilded Porcelain Bowl - Set of 3 Morimura - Noritake Nippon Hand Painted & Gilded Porcelain Bowl Antique Hand Painted Nippon Footed Teacup and Saucer - Morimura Bros (Old Noritake) - Sweet Pink Rosebud Design with Gold Gilt & Moriage Elegant and very lovely hand painted footed set of 3 bowls, made in Japan in the early part of the 20th Century. Delicate porcelain, a little moriage decoration accented in gold gilt, and a sweet pattern of pink rosebuds with green leaves. It is clearly marked with "Hand Painted Nippon" on the underside of the cup with the M in the middle of a laurel wreath. China marked 'Nippon' were made between 1891 and 1921, and were made in Japan, often by what would become the Noritake company, and exported by the Morimura Brothers. The M in the laurel wreath stands for Morimura Brothers (old Noritake) and hand painted Nippon which dates it from 1911 and pre-1921. The Morimura Brothers started as a trading company out of New York and Japan. They sold Japanese antique and imports to America. By 1899 a third of their business was ceramics, and all the potteries were consolidated in the area of Nagoya, Japan. In 1904 the two brothers established a factory of their own in Noritake, just outside of Nagoya. The name 'Noritake' on antique and vintage ceramics is actually referring to the town and factory, and was not, in fact, the company name until 1981. THIS RARE SET IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION NO CHIPS, STAINS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS. Measures: 6 inches diameter and 3" height and for small bowls diam. 3", height 2".
