This is a species Reed Stem orchid from Ecuador highlands that is a good outdoor hardy species for landscape use in the San Francisco Bay Area. It comes from high altitude, so it is accustomed to our cool summer weather and cool night time temps, yet still grows and blooms very well. I find it does well for me with dappled sun or very bright shade, and usually starts blooming for me in late summer into late fall, easily lasting 3 months or more in bloom. I recommend this along with E. capricornu and E. embreii as Epidendrum species that do well outdoors in milder Mediterranean climate gardens that get little frost.
Esta flor mide unos 5 mm; crece abundantemente en los barrancos de los caminos de tierra fría (> 2.200 metros de altitud). Por comparación con fotos del libro "Orquídeas nativas de Colombia" parece ser Epidendrum fimbriatum. This small orchid is about 5 mmm wide; it grows in the border of the trails in the cold zones (higher than 6.600 ft).
