My very first reveal post!! I will be the first to admit that I might not have been entirely ready for this 6 week blogging and design challenge. I had a whopping 2, yes TWO blog posts up before deciding to tackle this project. I am learning as I go and doing something like this […]
If you haven’t already heard, we are updating our boys’ room. Two weeks ago, I shared all about our inspiration for this room and last week, I introduced you to the room, in its original state (one word: YIKES). This week, I want to take you behind-the-scenes and start showing you the progress that we’ve made so far. As I mentioned last week, I am participating in Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge, where a bunch of fabulous home decor bloggers all makeover one space in their homes and share it together on Thursdays, for six weeks. So let’s start with the paint, because that is truly where every space begins its transformation is with the walls. I’ve had the privilege of working with Para Paints this year and I have to say that after 10+ years of painting the homes that we have lived in, this is hands down the best paint I’ve ever used. We have been using the Para Premium and Ultra lines and the paint is just fabulous. So thick and yet goes on smoothly. One thing I love about their paints is that they have very low fumes, making it ok for the kids to be...

This is the final post in a series called the One Room Challenge. I have shared the reveal of my daughters vintage chic girls room makeover.
Seven weeks have flown by and we’ve turned Milly’s room from a space that was rather sad to a room that gives you all the feels! In case you missed the journey up to this point you can catch up here: week one, week two, week three, week four, week five, week six. This started out pretty sad… CROWN 1 . 2 . 3 | BASE | CASING 1 . 2 | WALL TREATMENT 1 . 2 …but ended up rather magical. To recap, we started off by scraping ceilings and installing the prettiest millwork ever. Then my favorite painters came in and covered the walls in Farrow & Ball’s Peignoir and the ceiling and closet in this Bumble Bee paper. I had a Karastan carpet cut and bound as a rug to fit the space, and it brings a wonderful amount of warmth and light along with a lot of durability. If you’ve never had wool carpet, you are missing out! This is the third space we’ve put Karastan’s […]

In case you missed the reveal, you can see that here and here. Laura’s home already had wonderful, historic bones, but the living space could use a bit more character. Laura wanted bookshelves, and while we had talked about something clean and modern, I really encouraged her to stick with the period of the house and create something that looked original. Custom built-ins aren’t cheap, and we knew this would need to be on a budget. Hacking the Ikea Billy has been done before (my friend, Kristin, did a beautiful version) but with this being an older home, we had several obstacles to overcome. One, we didn’t want to have to rip out any of the existing woodwork. Usually you cut away the base trim when you want something flush against a wall, but Laura wanted to keep the over-100-year-old trim in tact, in case the built-in was ever removed. […]
