The stage of Marie Antoinette's theater at the Petit Trianon image: (C) Château de Versailles, Dist. RMN-Grand Palais / Jean-Marc Manaï
A collection of prints by Jean Pillement, published in 1767. Pillement was one of the most important artists of Chinoiserie, a style preferred by the French court that used oriental motifs as a starting place for laconic landscapes and fantastic architectures that floated on clouds of opium smoke. Pillement was a prolific artist who worked all over Europe, including England, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Austria, and of course France, where he painted for Marie Antoinette in the Petit Trianon. Taken from one of six Pillement books available from the French National History of Art website inha.divvalib.net/collection/ Sorry about low resolution- that's the way they uploaded them on their site.
